Gentlemen: What do you recomend for the 03 body?????? What brand cattle gards are you running on your trucks???? also where can i find these units?? thanks DOC... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

A cattle guard goes across a road (at a gate) to keep the cows in the pasture. A GRILL guard goes on the front of a truck. ;)

I like the one on my Ranch Hand front bumper. They make separate grill guards too. Don't know if you loose the tow hooks.

Bull Bar Blues

I had a "grill gard" on my truck when I tapped a pole at less then 5mph. The $200. chrome bar folded like a wet noodle and the factory bumber was trashed. Do yourself a favor and live with OEM or buy a real bumper like the buckstop bumper. This bumper is 1/4 inch plate with critical areas reinforced. I find that my 2500 handles the extra weight with no problem. I added a 12K Warn winch and no change in the trucks stance. Check them out at buckstop. biz. Just my 2 cents.

For those grill guards that have bars across the headlights, do they prevent you from replacing the headlight in case of burnout? Or do you have to remove the entire grill guard in order to remove the headlight? As I understand it, the 3rd gen headlights must be removed from the front.

I have 7 of these, works fine for cattle but makes grading the road a real pain with my Cat 12 Grader. As far as Grill guards go I second the Southwest Fabricators brand.

With real world experiance here in Northeastern WY. I have hit 2 Good size Muleys

and one average Elk. The Elk dented the lower right diamond plate (SLIGHTLY)

and the tip of the antler wrapped around the heavy pipe and put a very small cresent moon dent in the right fender, matter of fact it looks about like this: ( .

I did forgive him about 10 steaks later ... ... ... ... .

Anyway the Southwest Fabricators Is my HOT TIP.

I'd recommend a 1/2 " aluminum Denver Off Road. They aren't cheap but they ain't steel neither. ;) See reader's rigs pics.

Besides you are a doctor and can afford it. :-laf

Don't REALLY know about MPG drops as I put it on at > 500 miles. But I can see

19 mpg IF I drive no faster than 62 MPH And I have a 1000 lbs steel flat bed

with a huge headache rack so I'm NEVER "empty". and in the WY black hills I'm between 4200 ft to 6800 ft alt. in the hills. oft times I see 14+ but I carry lotsa

stuff too. No "boxes" on eng. I'm a pretty sedate driver though.

What I have found to be the most effective cattle guard is strapping a couple of P. E. T. A. member's to the front bumper. Yes, I have tried placing them in the bed. This didn't work-out too well 'cuz they're pretty sneaky and somehow manage to get away!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist :D
