I guess this is one thing we'll disagree on... I have duals on the fenders of my dad's truck... he has a PC76 and easily obtained a 1. 2:1 SWR with cophased coax, and has an great range for a barefoot radio. The only thing is, he is very directional to the sides and front, and signal sucks to the rear.

You don't need a puck with a roof mount. Just drill the hole and screw the base together ... ... ..... one inside and one outside of the roof which sandwiches the sheet steel.

That's for a Wilson 5000, that requires little support... he was talking a Predator 10k or MM, which have a whole lot more wind load (let alone striking load).

hummmm... ... ... ... . puck huh... ... ... . as far as mag mount. it just does not seam as sturdy to me

A magnet mount Wilson 5000 or 1000 are very sturdy... I have more than 300k on a Wilson 5000 magnetic. I have only removed it a handful of times due to low hanging branches (in all cases, the branch hit the base of the antenna).

I've used Cobra 29's in both my Peterbilts and my Freightliner. I love them so I bought another for the pick up. Pricey and a bit overkill for a pick up, but I like overkill!!!!

Pricey? Overkill?? A 300 watt export maybe overkill, but a 20 watt Cobra29 is a rock solid radio for the average CB'er. Pilot is having a sale on them. Also, the Uniden PC78 is a rock solid CB radio. Either can be had for ~$100, ad another $20-$40 for a peak, tune and alignment at a reputable shop and your good to go! Also, check out the Black Chrome version of the Cobra29, it's on sale at Pilot too, for a little more than the regular cost of a standard Cobra29.

Firestik does make an antenna mount for the new trucks. I put mine on Sunday morning. Call the 800 number and you must talk to the guy there not the girl. It is for the newer trucks and has a different bend in it. The 18 ft of coax was with it. I put my Cobra nightwatch in and it works good but the night light part did not work after it got dark. Can't find my owners manual to figure out why. Any body have one of these radios?

Is the dimmer switch turned up? Other than that, that is the only way I know of how to control /turn off the back lighting on my Cobra N/W

Weird, maybe its burnt out. Does the radio say "night watch" on the front of it, or is it maybe a classic that doesn't light up.

what i did was mount my wilson 5000 just in front of my stake pocket(second gen) i used the 4 bolt mirror mount and clamp it to the inside of the bed rail. i just use 2 bolts no need to drill. my set up seems to work really well however to make it more optimal i need to get the coil above the cab and trim the stinger down to maintain the same length.

I have a Preditor 10k on mine I made an aluminum bracket that is mounted to the front of box of the truck level with the roof of cab for a even ground plane..... The P10k is a great antenna and it handles the 600 watt amp Im using... drilling into a perfect cab is heart breaking though Ive done it before... the best place for a wilson or a K40 is in the cab roof..... its a small hole and it wont leak used it for years in my 04... ... . fender mounted fire sticks, mounting ant in stake pockets etc dont get you a good ground plane..... unless your using a big whip ant. into the bumper

FWIW, on the subject of radios, here is the newest from Cobra. It has Bluethooth capability.
