Ok, got most everything I ordered for my CB (except, of course, my CB... which should be here tomorrow), and need some advice hooking up the coax cable that I got.

From what it looks like to me (and from what charlan has told me through a PM), I feed the little part of the cable into the small part of the connector, and solder it at that tip. Now, how do you go about soldering the grounding wiring (the copper stuff) that goes into the "barrel" of the connector? Or do you just leave it and let the pressure take care of connecting it?

Here's two pics to help demonstrate what I mean. Someone care to elaborate on how to hook this up correctly?

I'm not sure of the barrels you're using, but the one's I've seen have four holes evenly spaced, and you should solder the grounding wire through those holes. This can be tricky, so be careful and make sure you have a soldering iron with enough heat but a small enough tip to fit right down in the holes.

I hope this helps!

Snowracer69! You should have got Coax allready put together from factory

that way no sodering. I found a rubber gromet next to steering collum

split it with knife ran coax thru it. Hope this helps. Oo.

OL Ratlr,

Ordered a "kit" from a company online that had mounting bracket and wiring in it. Didn't realize the wire would come in this form. It's Firewire (by Firestik) with the "ring" connector on the antenna end. No biggie.

Oh ya... all my wires run through the clutch grommet next to the steering column. With 4 gauges, my Comp, my stereo amp, and all my other crap that needs power or whatever, the thing is getting awful full. Maybe when I build my console I'll drill a new hole to make all my wires reach easier.

Thanks for the help.

Haven't looked at it today, but if there aren't the 4 holes around the outside, how do I solder the ground wire?

CB ground wire solder

Snowracer, I have the same setup and cant remember if I had to solder the copper or not, will check the instructions when I get home and PM ya.

Dave,

Sounds good. The instructions that came with my kit aren't really instructions at all. They basically just show a diagram of how to put the parts together on the mount end, and then where it should and should not have conductivity.

Awaiting your PM.

Amazing what you find when you go looking for it!!!

Found this on the Firestik webpage:

Coax install guide

Mine is obviously diagram D, so that is how I'm gonna do it. Will wait for my radio to show up (today hopefully) to make sure that connector will work with it (why wouldn't it?) and then will put her in place.

I noticed when looking at the connector that the back side was threaded, but couldn't figure out how that worked to make the ground work good. Now I know!!! (You fold the ground part back over the outer-most insulation and then screw it up into the barrel).

Thanks for all the help guys.
