Stryker SR76 Mic Audio

The only reason to pay the Stryker premium is that legendary audio. No need to ask the operator what radio he’s running.

To that end, the re-birth of the Palomar SL-41 has arrived:

Post in thread 'Presenting the reincarnation of the sl41 (stryker sr-75nc)'
https://www.worldwidedx.com/threads...f-the-sl41-stryker-sr-75nc.268594/post-843489

Examples:
https://www.movophoto.com/blogs/movo-photo-blog/what-is-microphone-wind-muff-for

(These aren’t necessary, yet a little might go a very long way if testing says it’s worthwhile; read rest of that ongoing thread).

Best dial-in is with a separate radio in backseat to which one connects power-only, no coax. Use a headset to listen to self as mic & radio adjustments are made. (Talkback won’t work as it intercepts the audio prior to TX).

Keep radio levels tuned down (power, etc). Start from bottom and slowly work one’s way up.

The WWDX link is some of the guys who dive deep on every aspect of radio performance.

In mic review or comparison videos one notes mainly the plosive P and sibilant S. Getting those “turned down” while afterwards (with this mic) being able to find a suitable tone for one’s voice will cause this radio rig to stand out even among 955s.

Wind/Breath control, then the Sound.

Test:

The Radio is GTG. Now get TX audio to where How you’ve said something is clear-as-a-bell.

The testing is for any microphone chosen.
The minor mods.

There’s no way to fully capture faint/weak signals via NRC without a quality speaker. This location can be modified to fully underseat given clearance (a Kenwood shown).

Firing into the footwell is more than pleasant and avoids airbag type problems.

This level of audio fidelity in a mobile speaker hasn’t been matched. Yes, it matters. Next to nothing changes the experience of CB as much as the right speaker. The one built-in tells you the radio is working and that’s all it’s good for.

An integrated NRC radio plus higher fidelity mic & speaker is Year 2024. Wholly outclasses what was thought normal just two years ago . . . as those are now made obsolete.

It’s that big a change.
I know what is Citizens Band!”
No, . . you don’t.

FWIW, my use is 300-days/year at 2,000-hours approx.
Use is central to my health & wealth. It goes on when I wake up and is running till I go to bed after another 5-600/mile day.

Capturing this quality for a video is difficult. But here’s a man in a hard-surface garage and he could turn back RF Gain somewhat. Your Cobra 29 won’t capture 2/3 of what he’s able to hear. You’ll think CB is “dead”.

An NRC radio + DRX-901 is state-of-the-art. You’ll hear every minor flaw in other radios. I help other men get dialed-in on a regular basis as it’s easy for me to tell what is “off”.

I have other drivers who may hear my rig at a truckstop walk over to ask about what they’re hearing. Most think I’m on VHF due to clarity.

Cut off that supplied power cord short as reasonable. Fused at BATT+ means don’t need cord fuse. Splice-in that 10-AWG marine-grade with heat-shrink butt connectors. Cover full length with blue stripe split loom. Secure every few feet.

Cover & secure coax in same way.

I use self-splicing silicone tape at cover ends to secure, and sometimes a small dimension zip tie.

I really like your mount solution.

At the same time, if you can work in some wedges of Sorbothane to cushion against vibration, it’d put you miles ahead on reliability/longevity. Brace against shake and isolate from vibration.

Radios last years. But they’ll take damage in a twenty-minute move. Wrapped in a tee shirt won’t cut it. I highly recommend one of these kept in truck permanently. Room for radio, mic, and speaker plus harnesses:
https://www.harborfreight.com/3800-weatherproof-protective-case-large-black-63927.html

The 2800 is too small, and the 4800 takes up a lot of room. I have probably a half-dozen of these, total.

Cheap insurance. Ask me how I know.

No good unless it’s always ready. Not in garage back home. $40 to protect a $600 system. (Shop repair removal or to protect from thieving eyes on a road trip: make it easy to R&R).
