CB Install

Just now getting back into the swing of things (been busy with a class I've been taking, and haven't been on the site in awhile. )



I want to hook up my CB (was talking about doing this before I got busy last year... ) and was wondering if anyone has figured out a "painless" way to install a CB into an '06 Ram. No cutting of floorboard, and I don't want to kill my engine when I key the mike on my high-powered radio.



Has anyone found a suitable overhead compartment for a Galaxy or other "real" CB? How can I route the cables out of view from the ceiling to the back of the cab and out to the bed?

I mounted my pumped up galaxey with the bracket soled by genos and it worked nice I have sold that truck and now have a 07 wihthe big console pm me if you want my bracket set up tim

Here's my 06'. Brake controller is now a Prodigy P3. I think my Cobra is about the same size as about a Galaxy.

I put my General Lee on the knee bolster. I ran the coax under the shifter console to the driver seat, where it connects to my kicker, and then up the "B" pillar to my roof mounted Wilson antenna.

Years ago you could get a CB that could be hidden out of view, and all the controls were in the microphone.

Crunch, I have seen some, Cobra makes them. But they were about $200. I have an old one that my grand father gave me that works fine and it is something like the Wilsons etc. I would rather run the cables for something like that than buy one of those.

Try search on the Cobra 75. It's either love it or hate it. I hated it. The knee bolster is the absolute last place I'd ever place anything. In case of accident your knees go there. You have no choice in the matter.

Hey Tom, are you using the Midland spkr for the CB?
I have the same CB in my Montero and I know the built in spkr blows, external is the only way to go.

Other question I have about the 75, do you have problems with the squelch when it's Sound Tracker on?

Two words... ... ... soundtracker sucks! Never use it... ... ... ... .

Also, heck yes. The Midland speaker is the only way to go. I am glad I took the advice from someone else and added it. Feels like a normal CB. I like the search function too. WX woks great.

It's a very nice setup and after a VSWR tuning, is a darn good CB.

Bingo! I've never used one, as I like having the actual component right there where I can see it and access it. But if I absolutely had to go with one because of space considerations I could see getting one. As for Soundtracker, I have the Cobra 148 NW ST, and love it. Don't use the Soundtracker feature, though. I've never really had a problem with background static that couldn't be solved with the squelch control and having my external speaker sitting on the back seat and pointing at the ceiling. I keep the ANL on, the NB off. My only complaint is that I have never been able to talk to anyone on the USV/LSB channels, which was one of the primary reasons I went with the Cobra 148 in the first place.

I'm not sure how you position your seat, but with my seat belt on, my knee comes no where close to my CB ... ... ... ... . or my brake controller.

I wasn't trying to flame. If you're tall enough that it works, great. Every insurance safety crash I've seen the mannequin's knees immediately goto the knee bolster. One of the measurements taken by the Feds and Insurance companies is how far the dash/knee bolster invade the personnel area of the mannequin. This predicts the likelihood of the dash inducing further injury to the driver/passenger. I might be ok with my brake controller on the knee bolster, but my wife would never walk again if the truck was in an accident. No way I could attempt putting a fullsize CB in that area.

Yes. in a collision it is surprising how fluid everything becomes, including the dash, and your legs. It's called a knee bolster, and provides an impact space,and cushion to direct and protect your knees/legs from colliding with a solid object. The shape it has is not a coincidence.
