Looking for ideas on where to locate a CB in my 2005 Quad Cab,3500, dually, 4X2. I have a Brakesmart controller and a Transferflow fuel gauge located between the steering wheel and the cupholder which also is used a lot. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome and has anyone found a way to mout it overhead, seems like my trip console would get in the way of that. Thanks

Your sig doesn't say, but I have the 6-speed with a short shift kit and BIG BOB's mount does work, even with an export radio. Check out my Reader's Rig pics to see what it looks like.

If you have a bucket seat, try putting the radio between the seat and the center section. I have and use the radio without problem. The sound could be better for these ears but it is sufficient and you can see the front controls as they are at your right hand at seat level. When you're not using the radio, pull it out from between the seats, unplug the connections and put it into the under seat compartment.

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like between the seats is the best location, I have the storage area under the middle seat and can mount a bracket to it. Have an auto trans so do not have the shifter box to deal with.

Thanks again

Here is a couple of pictures of the mount I make.

I make a couple of different ones, and one specifically for the 6-speed. You still have full access to the under the seat storage.

PM or email me if you are interested.

I have a 6 speed 4WD and mounted my 148GTL to the side of the transfer case selector/ shifter housing console thingie. Driving at night my leg will block the lights from the face of the unit. 400 watt kicker is mounted on the other side of the console.

Yes and No. I have mine overhead, but most guys probably wouldn't like it like mine. It's over the right hand side of the center console (off centered to the pass. side) and turned slightly towards the driver. Kinda hard to see, but it's the only way my radio would fit overhead. Works great since I know the controls and don't have to look at it to adjust. No lights to bother ya at night either. I used self tapping screw to hold it to the crossmemeber and it doesn't wiggle. I had to make extensions for the mounting bracket 'cause the headliner is too thick. Did the same thing iin my '01. The only other way I'd mount it would be to use Bob's setup.

If your interested PM my with you email and I'll send ya some pics.

I have a quick dumb question, but since most guys here have them I figured might as well ask, not to hijack the thread as well, but could prove useful for other memebers as well.

Is there such thing as a CB radio that can communicate with a two way hand held radio(the two to five mile range ones). My family and I all use the hand helds, when were traveling, but since I always misplace mine, I figured that I would rather get a CB and communicate with them that way. The only place I have check was radioshack and they dont know if it would work, so I need to ask the pros, you guys with experience! So, is there a CB that can work like this? Which name as well as cost.

Also can you guys upload pictures of how your antennas are mounted and wires ran through your trucks.

Thanks.

red rider,

try channel 14 on your cb and channel 7 on the FRS radio. I think those are the correct channels my father and I used one day. My CB is out of the truck waiting on me to install it right now or I would check it for you.

If that doesn't work keep trying different variations of the channels to find the correct combination. I know it works just not sure  about the channels on each radio.

I guess I cheated - had the Cobra radio put inside the dash, with only the wire sticking out of the little piece of plastic under the vent on the passenger side next to the radio stack. My mic attaches to the dash between the vent and the airbag panel. Works great and really saved me some time last summer going cross-country to Wyoming.

I have been trying for a long time to figure out where to put a full-sized CB and a pistol push button lock box in my truck. The problem is I have a 6 speed and manual 4x4 lever.

As far as the CB, my mount will work well for it. For the pistol lock box, sorry I can't help you with that.
