Getting ready to put the ole radio in the 06. Having a tough time finding the hood mount like I had on the 01. I have a headache rack but with the chicken slide on I think it would interfere. Can someone help with where to get a hood mount. I like the idea of not haveing to drill holes. Thought about the front stake pocket but with the air dam pulling the 5er I don't think I would get the full benefit. Thanks, Okie

Hey Okie,

I used the Firstick hood mount from my old 2nd gen truck on my '03. It mounted a bit forward of the location on the 2000 truck. Here's a photo:

That is what I was looking for. It looks the holes are under the hood so it can't be seen. I like that idea. Thanks for the picture! Did you have to modify the bracket any to fit the hood on the newer truck?

No, the hex head sheet metal screws don't show when the hood is closed.

I did modify the bracket a small amount. I clamped it in a vise and straightened out the angles just a little bit so it would fit flat on the fender flange.

BTW, Congratulations on the new truck and 5th wheel! Hope to see ya' again on the road sometime. :D

Bill. That is the way I want mine to look. I thought about putting a dummy antenna on the passenger side to make it look neat and cool. I think I am going this time with a 4ft. I know there has been talk about putting the antenna on the passenger side but mine worked quite well with just the 3ft antenna. Now to find out the best place to order.

Okie, Here's a link to the Firestick web site: CATALOG Main Page (Frame Setup) Click on "Mounts" at the top of the page and another window appears. Click "Dodge Hood Mount" in the index on the left side of the page.

I bought mine at a CB shop in Fort Worth, TX.

I'll take a peek and check around here. I think there is a cb shop on the way home. May be worth a try a try to find this around here. Thanks for the help!!

I did stake pocket mounts with whips. They are fairly tall, but not sure if they'll stay clear of your trailer or airdam or not. There is one pic in my "photo gallery" that might show you. I get good reception, and took the wires in the vents in the back of the cab, so not drilling at all. However, I'm concerned water might run down the wires and into the vents, but haven't seen that happen yet.

would you be interested in something like this? (proto type pic)

How much are the SS ones going to be? & how do they attach to the mirror?
Will it work on the mirrors that are on the '07's.

I think a pair of those would look good on the dually. Looks like a firestik antenna as well. That is the kind I am planning on using.

Let us know when they are finished, I have been thinking about something exactly like that. Do you have to trim some of the mirror bracket to make them fit?

I have used a K 40 trunk mount on my last three dodges. I just mount it backwards on the corner of the hood on the driver's side of the truck. No wholes to drill, just tighten the two set screws and run the cable. On my 07 I but a little bend in the antenna where it just comes out of the base so it stands up staight. If you put it in the right spot it won't hit the cab when you open the hood. Let me know if you want a picture!
