I know that this is an old thread but it's the only one that came up in my search.

The owners manual for my 09 has a caution regarding CB installation. Anyone running a CB in a 6. 7? What precautions did you take and where did you mount your Antenna?

I'm going to guess that it has more with tampering with the truck's wiring than RF... all the 3rd gen books have this statement BTW.

I know JHardwick is running some heat, and I'm currently running about 100 watt (AVG, not PEP); and neither of us has had any issues with the earlier third gens.

I do know that some of the chips/boxes don't like the added RF. Unless your running excessive power or dirty RF... you should be fine (especially with a stock, non-amplified radio).

Im running 500w amp on a Galaxy88 threw a predator 10k antenna on my 3rd and when keyed up the seat belt light lights up and my Edge juice w/ attitude EGT shoots to 1600* :-laf

Yeah, my aftermarket gauges go nuts too... the analog's run clear to max and the digital Granatelli reads that its backing down and the pyro goes nuts...

I'm soon installing a 1x4... so that should get me into seatbelt light illuminating territory. :-laf

No Heat here, just an old K-40 with a magnetic mount on the roof. Don't want to talk to the Space Station... LOL. Just want to hear about traffic and Radar up ahead.

Has anyone used the 'through the roof' stud mount required for the predator antenna's? They are different than the usual NMO. If so, please advise on installation instructions. I do not seem to be able to find any.

Typically, the larger antennas (like a predator 10k) use what is termed a puck mount... (hey look like a hockey puck constructed of steel and delrin. The reason they are that big is to provide support for the wind load from those large antennas.

Other than that, each one is just slightly different, and may require a different sized hole. You should be able to obtain the installation instrcutions from 10k?

with a P10k you will need to install a plate on the inside of the truck roof the metal is way to thin even when using a PUC mount Ive been there and its a pain I ended up making a mount that bolts to the front of bed and reaches above the roof line so you can get a good match with the P10k.....

Thanks for helping out here gentleman... . Rjones, it seems that fabricating a plate to mount internally would negate the need for a Puck on the exterior as well. Am I thinking correctly?

If using a P10K or equivalent antenna yes or a Predator Heavy Duty Antenna Stud ... . if using a Wilson 5000 or similar no... . If you need to see and example do a google search on JesseJames Dallas he posted pictures of his roof mount... . he is a real nice guy. .
