Anybody know who's making CB Radio Brackets to put CB's in front of the center seat on the 3rd gen? I'd like one that rip is selling for the 2nd gens. Any help would be awesome!

I need one too, but my cup holders are in the center, "6 Speed" so I can't do the center mount thing; I'd have to go to the side or something.

I installed the CB in my '91 Ford by mounting an overhead console from JC Whitney.

I HOPE that better consoles are available for the new Rams. I don't know who would sell them.

The overhead mount is awesome. Mine is in the center of the console, above the shelf so that it does not obstruct the rear view mirror. This installation works quite well, in my opinion. The only thing I'd change would be to fabricate a couple more mounts to securely mount the shelf so that it doesn't bounce up and down on bumps. I have the back/center of the rack secured with bracing screwed into the ceiling of the truck... need 2 more mounts in the middle of the shelf (i. e. , not at the front of the shelf) on either side of the CB to make things more secure. Like I say, I hope there's a pre-fab, higher quality and more secure overhead console for the new Rams that'll fill this bill.

Pics of my installation at: http://photos.yahoo.com/mlewis73 I have recovered the shelf with padded vinyl since the pics were taken... much nicer now.

JVolpe: Where did you mount your antenna? I made my own radio mount bracket and it mounts my Cobra right where yours is only I have just enough space to fit my fingers to open the bottom compartment and maybe a 1/2" between the cupholder and the radio. I mounted an external speaker directly underneath the cupholder. But the antenna was the bugger. I finally mounted the antenna using a fender bolt closest to the hood hinge on the driver's side. Just curious where you mounted yours.

DH,

I wimped out on the antenna, I used a Midland window mount. The pictures of it are in the gallery link in the above post. Easy to route the cable under back pillar and door seals that way. I have used window mounts on the last three trucks with my CBs. For my needs they work fine. I don't blow anybodies drawers off, but have adequate range for the highway. SWR readings were very good on this CB/Antenna combo.

You can bearly see my external speaker between the 4x4 shifter and bottom of center console. Fit in there perfect.

Here's a few pics of my side mount. There's more in my reader's rigs. This took hours and hours for me to make, so I don't want to make another one, but it can be done. No holes needed to be drilled in the truck to install the mount. It's very sturdy.

More pics in my reader's rigs.

I mounted mine on the drivers side next to the 4X4 shifter. I removed the boot for the shifter and drilled two holes in the plastic. Used the factory mount with the radio. No special fabrication.

I have seen a split shelf that Cabela's (and probably others) sell that works with the overhead computer. It has power jacks in both sides. I thought about one of those, but I had the single shelf in a Bronco and it lowered the sun visors quite a bit. Don't know if the split one does that also or not.

Take a look on TDR's classified ads-vendor promotions-TDR member basement enterprises. Robert Novak has an ad there for 3rd gen CB mounts. Doesn't have a picture.

That is Big Bob :D .

I had come close to buying a CB mount discussed here quite a bit- until I read some of the manufacturer's insulting posts, including to me. No way will I ever give a dime to someone who does that sort of thing. Other mounting options are available as discussed here. Plenty of mannered folks out there to give my business to.

Yup. The mfg oughta be as helpful as possible to the guy who gives him money.

I personally like the overhead console mount I did.

Very nice Mlewis! That looks factory. I also like the dash rug.

Thank you. I worked at it a bit... did some "custom" fabricating. If I were keeping that particular truck, I'd invest more time and money into the console setup and mounting. As it is, I have little bolts poking through the vinyl covering... should have installed the CB radio bracket some other way so that it would be perfect. JB Weld or something would have been better than bolts... or could have JB welded the bolt heads in place so they wouldn't turn when the bracket was removed/added and nuts were loosened or tightened.

Does anyone make a good overhead console for the Ram trucks? I'm not overly impressed with the JC Whitney console because the brackets that hold it up are a little tough on the headliner material and because it is made in China. Would want better quality in the Ram I hope to buy this year or in '08.
