Finally got my truck

Where can I mount a standard size CB radio in an 02 3500 cab? There is a definite lack of clear under dash space in which bolt this thing up. Ideas, suggestions, and experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Try this one:

Mike Brolin's CB mount

It's the best thing since sliced bread. :D

Edit: Mike Brolin has posted today that production of his famous CB mount has ceased due to the rising costs of materials and escalating postage rates. :(

Mike's Announcment

Does this mean that the existing ones are now "Limited Editions?"

do you have a standard or auto? I have a std and removed the cubby hole in front of the shifter, made a mount plate from 3/4 plywood, and mounted a Galaxy 959 (large). It wa about the only place I could find taht didn't interfere with my console.

If you have a standard trans, do as Straight6Jeff suggests... ... ..... his is a real sweet set-up.

Thanks for the replies shovelhead and straight6! I think I'll go with Mike Brolin's mount that puts the radio just behind the shifter, ahead of the center seat section. BTW, he's no longer making these - I was able to get the last of his "extras". Oh yeah, straight6, I've got the manual trans -- your idea would work too!

Here is what I did. Used some door guards to make the outside trim to cover the hole I cut in the original cubby hole section, picked up a new one for 35 dollars and have it in case I ever want to switch back

Poor picture but mine is mounted to my Stealth Box center seat.

No picts but I had it mounted on the right side of the shifter housing vertically, prior to the stealth box. #ad

I bought the center console by Rob thomas

and mounted the CB on the front of it

6 Sp. stick Barely touches the CB in second but it is at the lowest stretch of the throw.

Under the lid you see is a plastic tub that has foam insulation arount it and I tried it out and drinks with ice stay cold for hours. very good product. made out of Cherry.

that cooler thingy would get me into trouble

Two things:

I have removed the shark-mouth cubby hole as well. I then fabricated a bracket from aluminum that goes from the upper metal cross member in the back to the cubby-hole screw holes under the dash trim. Then I took a another aluminum piece and bent it 90 degrees or so to mount the face plate of my FT-900 (the radio will remote under one of the seats). Next, I'm going to fab some more brackets from this top plate to hold two more radios. PHOTOS when finished!.

Second--if you have any interest in radio communications beyond the truck next door and the general blabbity blab blab "what's the 20 on the BAAAAABY doll" type CB yak, then check out getting a ham license. It's not hard, very rewarding, and expands your radio horizons kinda like getting out of '75 datsun pickup and into the CTD.

There's a Ham club in your area, practice exams are online, and most any ham will be glad to help you get on the air. The license and examination fee is currently $10 and is good for 10 years. Most clubs have testing sessions every other month or so.

Radios are cheaper than ever. For about $200 (new radio, antenna, and license) you can get on 2 meters. This is the most active band for mobile and local communications. 90 percent of 2m traffic goes through local repeaters and will cover huge areas compared to radio-radio talking (simplex). Some 2m systems allow you to make phone calls and others can be linked into the internet for world-wide contacts. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
