I need a little help figuring out where to hook up my two wire leads for my Cobra Ultra CB. There are two wires, one red and the other black. It says to connect the red lead +13. 8VDC, it states that this usually obtained from the accessory contact in the fuse box.

It says connect the black lead to the negative side of the vehicle. Usually the chassis of the car.

Ok you can tell I'm no electrical guru, I dont want to wire it somewhere wrong. Any tips where to wire these two leads?

I wired mine to a circuit (that was switched on by the ign. switch) in the PDC under the hood, ran the wires from there through the firewall. As it turned out, I ended up with lots of static from the VP-44. Had to install a noise firlter. If you don't smoke, the cigarette lighter is a good place to hook it up. If you don't want it to be switched off by the ign. you could run a circuit from the passenger side battery with a fuse at the battery. bg

I always wire the hot wire directly to the battery. Make sure your ground is good, and keep it as short as possible. Try to keep your coax away from other wires as well. As stated above, install a fuse in the hot wire as close to the battery as possible.

There is a fuse already linked into the lead. I was thinking of wiring the red lead to the positive battery. Thanks for the tips guys. I'll work on it this weekend.

Yes, but you still want one as close as possible to the battery. That way if the wire insulation ever got rubbed through against something conductive, it won't short out and start a fire. The wire WILL melt fast when that happens. Just like the wires in a toaster.

At the moment I have mine hooked up to the fuse for the power seats, which I don't have. Constant hot though. Plan to hook it to a switched source sometime.
