Weekend Warrier Auction

I haven't used my CB for a couple of years, just brought it on a short trip last week. Although I was receiving traffic, I noticed that, with squelch turned all of the way off, the background shshshshsh noise was very low in volume. At first I thought there is something wrong with my radio (maybe there is). But then it occured to me that, maybe total CB usage is so far down, the there just isnt the cumulative noise anymore. Has anyone else noticed this ?

Thanks,

TRat

Yes, I have a little Midland hand held that used to be so noisy you had to keep the squelch turned way up to bear the noise. Just returned from a trip yesterday and used it to try to keep up with traffic tie ups. Noise was way, way down?? Less sun spots or less CB use or maybe both. bg

It seems you only get a lot of usage is near the truck stops. At least that is what I have noticed. For the most part only use mine with traveling with somebody else to keep in contact.

The sunspot cycles are also just coming back... they contribute to a lot of extra static and skip, its been really quiet without them.

Its quiet out there... during my last trip from PA to WA, I could count on one hand the number of conversations I heard. I believe a lot has to do with the fact that the cost of fuel is preventing speeding and a lot of companies have turned their trucks down to under 65mph... guys are listening to their XM more than the cb since they don't need to worry about police as much.
