My 04 has 146,000 trouble free miles but the new truck bug has bit. I'm wondering what would be better to get for my application. The bed is a non issue. It will be a multi-purpose farm truck loaded with tools, compresor, fuel tank, well if you can think of needing it on farm I've probally got it on the truck (the 04 weighs 12,800 with everything on it). I'm going to be towing my dozer, excavtor, etc... around the farm to and from different fields and such. The dozer is the heaviest weighing 18,000lbs (Yes I know I should get a 4500 or 5500 but I'm not so it doesn't matter). Most of my tow trips are 20 miles or less. The truck will be the service truck in the field. But to be honest most days it will just be general transportation around the farm. The truck i buy will be an auto so I'd like input on whitch transmission is better suited. I'd also like input on thoughts if going with the urea would be better or not. Tractors and stuff will be using the def so getting it will be a non issue just wonder if it might be better in the field?

The CC is detuned to 305 hp while the PC is 350 hp. I believe troque is the same for both 650.

Both the Asian (spelling?) and the 68re are both good. The aisan comes with a 4:10 rear.

DEF fluid I'd rather do with out but if your not going to use the bed the CC mite be better for you.

The thing that concerns me most is the short heavy trips are hard on the auto and I don't know which one will handle the heat better. Right now I do all my towing with my 07 that has a built transmission in it. After pricing trucks today I might go ahead and bite the bullet and get a 4500 CC. I would think the 4. 44 gears should make the trannys life pretty easy. Plus its basically the same money and a lot more truck. The only thing that concerns me is the 76mph speed limiter, but hey I need to slow down anyway.

I like the lower rears of course my trucks are use to flat land (well there are some hills). I have 3. 54/5spd in the Mule and 3. 59/6pd in the Freightliner( which has never been loaded to full capacity).

I think a 4. 10 would meet your needs.

The C&C suspension is better suited for your needs, if your going to stick to a 3500, then the C&C should be your choice, and order it with the HD front springs. The 305 HP is a non issue and gives you a longer service life, thats why they are set at 305 HP. You might want to consider a DPF delete and leave it on the farm. :-laf

I thought about going ahead and getting a 4500 but the closest dealer that can get one is a 180 miles away plus I really like my local dealer 10 miles up the road so I think I'm scratching the 4500 idea and sticking with a 3500. The only thing is I like the idea of the 19. 5 wheels with the 4. 44 gears. I don't know.

Why don't you order it from your close by dealer? Also there are many on line dealers (Dave Smith) and there priced lower that will pay for your transportation costs, if you show up in person and drive it home.

I thought that only certain dealers could sell the 4500/5500 trucks. I reserve the right to be wrong however.

Correct, my local dealer isn't even allowed to locate one. They did however put me in contact with a dealership that has some in stock about 2 hrs away. Turns out that dealer has a 5500 demo that the owner has been driving with a skirted CM flatbed already on it. Has a little over 2000 miles on it. I don't know anything about the 5500s as I haven't looked up the specs yet.

Its a good choice, its stouter than a reg 3500. You will be happy with it, I'm just sorry you have to drive so far to do anything, but for what its worth mine has been trouble free and you should expect your to be the same. One suggestion I might add is to find the lightest after market bed that can handle your load to help in axle ratings weights. Good luck, and we need to see pictures. :)

I went ahead and ordered a 3500 CC from my local dealer today. Ordered it with every option except tube steps, cargo light, and pto. I thought the pto might be good to get just in case but it required a vinyl floor. I thought leather seats without carpet would look funny. Just a guess but should be here in 30 days.

I myself am a farmer and own a 2010, all I can say is do the DPF delete if your going to be parking in fields with dry grass/stubble or be darn sure you dont park over any dry grass, because you will have all sorts of flames from underneath otherwise. When it re-gens it does not tell you in anyway shape or form so you never know when you pull into the field if the exhaust is at normal operating temp or super hot from a re-gen.

I had an 07. 5 for a short while that I got rid of for that very reason. At the time nobody had figured out how to remove the thing without the trucks going into limp mode.

Congrats on the order!

The auto trany should have the PTO anyway and you should be able to set it up later. BTW make sure they enable your high idle feature.
