Sludgy looking and heavy with oil glad I changed this earlier than the required 67,500 interval.

Your truck appears to be subjected to lotttttttts of short trips.

Daily driver 60 miles per day about 80% interstate at 65-70 mph and about 15% of the miles are 300+ towing 12,000 lb

According to the onboard hours screen I’m at 10% idle versus drive time. For 6 months out of the 4 year ownership I had a commuter car but got tired of dealing with that extra expensive.

Some short trips to hardware store, mulch etc but use wifes car for running errands.

I was very suprised and glad I looked at it early additionally a couple of years ago I posted here about the teaspoon or so of oil sitting in front of the turbo wheel between oil changes.

Not sure which oil you're using, but it does look like a lot of paraffin is present.

Keep in mind that the chime will still show up a few thousand miles from now...
 
Which oil do you use and what is your oil change interval. As for paraffin, It's in the diesel. But can also be in conventional oil.

Oil used is valvoline premium blue 15W-40 conventional and mopar or fleetguard filter.
I never hit the 15,000 mile interval always 6 months first which is typically around 6-7k.
I do blackstone oil analyst once per year usually towards the end of summer.

I usually have a heck of a time finding the valvoline blue in stock and have been thinking of switching over to rotella conventional just for convenience.
 
Totally random thought, but the inside of your bed looks incredible, especially for a 2014.



Hey thanks I use it but try not to abuse it the truck came with a drop in bedliner which I removed soon after purchase. Its had firewood, mulch, cinder blocks and a barbeque grill lid that flew around and removed some paint once.....I’m thinking the bed paint is a good bit thicker than the hood which I’ve touched up several times.
 
Interesting, I just had to replace the CCV filter on my '14 too! I didn't see any of the Milky looking material but the filter was completely saturated with oil, and I was starting to see oil in the intake tube.


I just turned over 57,000 miles.
 
probably moisture making that milky looking emulsion. I've often wondered if you couldn't soak that breather assembly in some type of detergent and re use it? any thoughts on that
 
iI wouldn't spend too much time dwelling on it. Before all this smog stuff you had lines dumping it straight to the ground. They were called blow by lines. You never had to look at it so you didn't worry about it unless it started blowing oil all over your undercarriage

I’m not concerned at all, the past couple of weekends I have been doing the 60k maintenance and curiosity got the better of me so I inspected the ccv filter and was suprised comparing mine to photos of others I have seen so changed it. I figured some here would enjoy the photos.
 
condensation. hot engine, engine cools off, moisture laden air is drawn into crankcase thru breather system as engine cools off. moisture accumulates, gets heated and sometimes mixed with engine oil due to heat and pressure... if the end user doesn't run engine long enough to cook off the accumulated moisture it begins to accumulate.
 
When doing this service, I seem to remember someone suggesting to inspect and/or clean the EGR valve?

Can someone elaborate or show pics. Never done this service. So I'm a little inexperienced with some of this emissions tecirc stuff.
 
How long is long enough. I run my 6.7 until the water temp, oil temp and transmission temp all reach maximum and usually run for a few more miles. I only drive my Ram maybe once every couple of weeks so I don’t use it for local trips. I make a point to drive round trip 40-50 highway miles every couple of weeks to keep the batteries charged. I would think that would be enough to cook out any excess moisture in oil. I do take the truck on trips every few months, I didn’t just buy it to look pretty in my driveway as my neighbor says although it does look pretty. 2017 Ram Longhorn Crew Cab 4x4 20” wheels. Everything except sunroof which I don’t like, just something to leak down the road.

There are several very good videos on YouTube showing the entire 67.5 maintenance. Pulling and cleaning the cooler and EGR and replacing the CCV. I was surprised how easy it is.

Ok. I found them in separate videos. Just wondering if everyone is doing EGR valve at the same time as the CCV filter.

Ram used to recommend the EGR service on the 07-12 trucks that have the first generation of emissions equipment. they don't recommend it on the 2nd generation emissions equipment because it isn't necessary as any vehicle equipped with DEF uses far less EGR to reduce NOx emissions . if you want you can pop the EGr valve off and make sure it is clean. its only four bolts.. but you really don't need to clean the EGr cooler on the newer trucks
