My 05 is having issues with the OEM radio. The CD player will not eject the CD. A local business can fix it for around $150. I am thinking I should invest the $150 and a little bit more to install a good, aftermarket head unit. I would like to find something the blends in with the factory dash. Any ideas on a head unit that blends in? Thanks.

if I remember, the 05's have a din and a half radio, there are some radios that are that size, but most are only a single din. find yourself a good dash kit and go for broke. I love Alpine, they make a great product, as well as Kenwood. The speakers may or may not sound good though. My 06 speakers were matched to the factory radio, I changed the speakers before I changed the factory head unit and during that time, the head unit made the aftermarket speakers sound pretty crummy. Now, with everything installed, double din Sat-Nav, DVD in dash with 600w amp pushing 4 channels with a 12" sub, the truck sounds great, with a real clean look.

Both my 03 and a friends 04. 5 had this same problem. That leads me to believe it may be an inherent flaw in the radio.

I got an Alpine aftermarket from Crutchfield. I wanted iPod interface, and sat radio, both controlled from the radio face. Crutchfield sends all the mounting equipment, instructions, and is spot on with their compatibility lists. I would look there for a solution you like.

Bernie, the repair shop told me it was a common problem with them. I have ordered from Crutchfield and been happy with them. Do you have any pics of your stereo?

i got a alpine ib my 04 with a amp and a 10 inch jL sub under the rear seat in my quad cab, it sound very great after replaceing the frount door speakers( the alpine over powered the speakers and they started to sound very bad, and the cone's started to come apart)
The cost for the install kit was about $25 and the wire harness adapter was about $10 the radio plug adapter was about the same if i remember:)

the stock radio in my 2004 dodge ram 2500 is the same in the dodge dakota in 2002 that i used to have. #@$%!

My 2005 radio works fine but the CD player will not play, and it seems to be worse after the truck is warmed up. If you put one in at startup, it will play, but after that it will not. Thanks for the info on Crutchfield.

Crutchfield. You can't beat their prices and they include installation kits to fit anything. I've been dealing with them for over 20 years.

Do you happen to have any pics of it??

MY 06 model does the same thing... I spent lots of time searching around trying to decide what to do for a factory looking upgrade. I finally gave up and just stuck all my CD's onto an MP3 player and plugged it into the factory unit.

CD's are quickly becoming a thing of the past, I don't need navigation, and really didn't want to hack my dash, and the MP3 player is much easier to store than all the CDs...

I bought an MP3 player, cord, and upgraded the crappy factory door speakers with some replacements from Crutchfield... Later on, I installed a sub box with builtin amp from Crutchfield and got everything tuned just right so all my TEXAS COUNTRY MUSIC sounds just like it should. .

I'm having the same problem with my 2004 Ram truck. The CD player does not work. Seems that a CD is stuck and no way of getting it out. How much of a problem is removing the radio from the dashboard?

It's easy, this part just pops out (pull with force but don't jerk) and then there should be like 4 screws for you to take out with a nut driver or screwdriver. The unit will slide out and you can just unplug the harness in back.

IIRC, first you must remove the ONE screw that holds the "hat hook" to the left and below the glove compartment. then it is simply pry or pull avay the bezel like you said. At least, that's how it is on my 2005.
