Depends on whether you're burning MP3 files or WAV files. Some players won't recognize MP3 files. My '05 was hit or miss with it, but it recognized WAV files all day long. Shouldn't make a difference whether it's CD-R or CD-RW. The brand WILL make a difference. I deal with this type of media everyday at work. I will tell you that a Compucessory disc will not be recognized, whereas a Memorex will. Hope that helps.
The 02 CD player will not play anything but audio CD's. No music in digital format.
You can burn your own audio CD's... BUT... . the player is a bit snitty about what CD's it is able to read . I have found that the CD's that are blue in color (on the optic side not the label side) are the ones that I never have trouble with no matter what CD player I put them in.
