Anyone remove the damper off the driveshaft slip yoke?

In a nutshell....

06 CTD, 20 deg F this morning. After starting CEL came on. Dealer pulled code: Low Battery Temp. Said there is a flash that addresses this as well as "low intake temp" code (237?).

Anyone know what else this flash has on it??

Thanks

John

P0514 is probably the single most common code. It's a flaw in the design that causes the battery temperature sensor to report that the battery temperature isn't rising as expected during the charge cycle. It is absolutely meaningless unless it occurs continuously, in which case the battery temp sensor is probably bad.

I've received P0514 twice - both times in arctic cold temperatures just after startup when I began moving the vehicle out of the parking lot. I ignored it both times.

As for low intake temperature, that could be something more indicative of a problem because it's not a common code like P0514. Are you saying you got the low intake temp code, or the dealer told you his flash fixes the low intake temp code?

If it were me, I wouldn't let the dealer flash the truck just to "fix" the P0514 issue. There are way too many things that can go wrong with a flash to be worth fixing a minor nuisance that happens once in a blue moon.

Yes the dealer told me that the flash fixes both the battery code and the low intake temp code.

The weird thing, is that the P0514 occurred after only 3 weeks of ownership and the outside temp was only 20 deg. If I don't get the flash, I'm worried about what will happen when it's -30 deg... Anyone know whats included in the flash for this?

CEL - fixed today

I went and had the TSB done for this today.

Funny thing is, whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on.

I lift the hood and the engine is still there. :)

Funny, I had this same code cleared this morning at the dealer. Thought it was a different code but I guess apparently this is the most common code that the ECU throws. Good to know it has happened before on others and it is something very minor.

That's funny right there... . :-laf

it is tsb 18-005-06b,symptom condition... . 1)a cel may illuminate due to one or more dtc's... . p0071-inlet air temp sensor rationality. . po111-intake air temp sensor rationality. . p0514-battery temp sensor rationality. . p0191-fuel pressure rationality also this tsb does this... 2) turbocharger durability improvement. implemented a engine speed limitation when cold to protect turbocharger bearings... . 3) clutch durability improvement. implemented a minimum engine speed limitation when launching vehicle from a stop to protect clutch. i would not let them do it to mine because of the turbo protection one because if you up grade to a bigger charger it wont spool up til the truck warms up. also i have heard of people complaining of there truck being sluggish when the go for the go peddle and i figure it is the turbo protection flash already in there ecm... just my 2 cents

You shouldn't be hammering on a turbo or engine until it's warm anyway... ... no pun intended :) Should be able to remove that feature with an aftermarket programmer if gone to a larger turbo.

Had the TSB 18-005-06 Rev B reflash.

Some of the noticeable differences:

Definite cut in power when not warm. Even when in operating temp range, full boost won't kick in till around 170-180 deg.

Glow plate comes on in warmer conditions. Before it seemed like it only came on under 32 degrees. Today it came on at 50 degrees or so.

Truck definitely starts easier.

I also had them turn off the seatbelt buzzer and enable the fast idle. Both for free.

Thanks for all the help!

Last Saturday, 5am, went to start the truck for a 500+ mile round trip- got a CEL. Plugged in my scanner and got the PO517 Batt Temp Sensor Low. NUTS.

Had to go- cleared it with the scanner and it hasn't been back. Funny thing is that it has been started on colder mornings w/o the CEL.

If the scanner had turned up a more complex/serious code, we would have taken a different vehicle- but a battery temperature sensor- felt OK clearing it right there.

got it this am also. probably didnt get below 30° it has been colder since I got the truck and have not seen it. Other then going to the dealer is there a way to clear it out, or will it go away after a few key cycles?

p0514

Just did a search for this code, and found this old thread on it. I had this code show today. temp outside is in the high 80's. truck sat all day in the sun, went to start it up to go to work. had the P0514. Kinda weird, cleared it with my Banks Power PDA. Didn't come back but strange. Should I do anything? dealer reflash or what? I also had a intake air temp code once for no reason. Anyone know of a NY dodge diesel dealer? Thanks
