I dont know if all the first generation duallys are like this but mine has flanged lug nuts. There were two tapered lugnuts attached to the lug wrench, and it said to run the tapered nuts up on the wheel to center it then put four flanged nuts on then take the tapered nuts off. i have done this but ever since i rotated the tires the first time they havent felt like they run true. I even went to NAPA and bought 16 of the tapered nuts and tried running four tapered and four flanged lugnuts on each wheel. This seemed to help a little but the wheels still dont run as smooth as before the first rotation of the tires. Has anyone had this problem and found a cure?

Alittle late, but. .
1. make sure the wheels are aligned, I had problems with my '96 1 tonner keeping them in alignment (cup and ridge on the duallies)
2. if you can find the factory balance marks, put then 180deg apart (should offset the diff -- if it doesnt try aligning them)

Don't take offense, but having the wheels "fit" together properly is always a problem for duallies and if they don't seat right... wobble(s). Check the torque spec and it might be higher than you think.

Just my 0. 01$ worth.

Wild Dave,

I had a 92 dually and had problems with the balance/viabration of the wheels. The biggest problem I had was with the loose quality control on the assembly(welding the disc in the rim) of the wheels. They weren't welded straight. So I would find which way they wobbled and mount the second rear wheel with the wobble the opposite way.

Mount the wheel on the hub using a couple of your tapered nuts and set a straight edge on the ground next to the wheel and turn it slowly and note where it is out of round and mark it, remove it, and then mount the second wheel by itself and mark it in the same way. After that mount each wheel with the marks oposite each other and that will help with the viabration. It still wasn't perfect but helped some--cheaper than buying a set of Alcoa aluminum wheels which is the real cure!!
