Heya,

Has anyone out there changed over to the ceramic (Ceramix brand, I think) brake pads to keep the brake pad dust off of their wheels? My Dad has a Z06 Vette and hestitated putting nice aftermarket wheels on it because the factory wheels would be covered in black dust after going around the block. He switched to the Ceramix and the problem dissappeared completely. They are pricey, but it may be worth it to keep the aluminum wheels nice.

Thoughts? Experiences?

In most cases these brake pads based on the material that's in the pad will wear the rotors excessively... if you look at ceramic material used in HD clutches you see the same kind of wear... .

Don't get me wrong. . they really work and don't fade... but in some cases at the next brake job you might be forced to replace all the rotors... . its something that I can't suggest to my customers... .

Remember to get better stopping (less distance) and no dust... . means a harder material... higher coefficent of friction... and more wear on the metal parts... .

Based on the formula of the friction this is nothing more than a formula to predict the life of the metal it wears against... .

Now if your not going to have the car, or truck at the time of the next brake job... . move ahead with no regrets... ... or if you have deep pockets for new rotors...

Just my 2 cents worth... .

Don't remember the name but there is a company that makes green pads. Not sure if they are made out of the same material as ceramics, but my dad put a set on a Z06 he used to have and they made a huge difference on brake dust and squeal.
