Okay I went home this last week running hard. I averaged just a hair under 70 for 500 miles so numerous times I was hitting 80 going down hills. I had my KLR 250 in the back and it catches a little wind. My mileage plummeted to 18. 6. I have gotten 25. 5 at 58 MPH and 26. 5 at 52 mph and I was kinda surprised my mileage dropped that much.

I am never going to drive that fast again; I really dont like it plus I couldnt even hear my Cummins purring with all the wind noise.

I've seen the same mileage difference @ 70mph. 60mph seems to be the "sweet spot" as I've seen a 1 mpg difference between 60 and 65 hauling my cabover. Problem is that darn go pedal is soooo much fun @70 #ad
Love to feel the torque of the mighty Cummins when it's chomping at the bit #ad

Makes sense to me. The faster ya go, the more power it takes because of wind resistance. To gain more power requires more fuel. Simple.

Hmmmmm, I don't know how to tell you this... .

I do much better than you.
My average MPG on Hwy is arround 11, got down to 8 MPG!
Could it be that I drive a lil' faster than you?!? #ad

Having extra wind resistance really makes a difference. When I pull something on my trailer that sticks up high, I drop down to around 11 but if the profile matches the cab, I get around 13-15. With the flaky Dodge fuel guage, if you are doing some hauling where you have some extra resistance, it is a good idea to err on the safe side. I. e; don't push it on stopping for fuel.

If you have a boost gauge, you can determine how your fuel mileage is going. The higher the boost needle goes, for sustained periods, the worse your fuel mileage.
