I added a CFM Plus intake two weeks ago and really like the results. The CFM and my Spearco intercooler work great together. Smoke with my Comp on 5x5 and Smarty on 8 has been greatly reduced. Before I would run the Comp on 3x3 most of the time to keep smoke to a reasonable level. Not any More. I would have to say your not getting the even close to the full benefit of an after market intercooler with out a better air intake. I'm surprised how many radically modified trucks I've seen in Diesel Power still running the factory elbow.

I suspect that I probably picket up a lot more horsepower and torque than many of the advertised numbers because of my other mods. $350 (with ports for water\meth) for what looks like a piece of plastic sounds hard to justify but I'd have to now say it's worth it if you have to mods (injectors, turbo, intercooler) to get maximum results out of it.

I wouldnt give the CFM the credit for the reduction in smoke. I just recently put the Spearco on my truck and it did all the things you are talking about. I have the CFM and I didnt see any gain anywhere with it other than a little quicker cooldown at idle. Just my $. 02

So the original poster puts on an intake elbow and sees a large decrease in smoke and you say it's not cause of the elbow? What else could it be then?

I'm running Mach 1. 6's and your running Mach 4's with the same size turbo I have. Where as my setup is burning fuel more efficiently (smoke reduction) now your pushing so much fuel that a lot of it is probably heading right out the tail pipe in the form of smoke. I bet you'd get a better reduction in smoke with the CFM if you had a bigger turbo. My two cents.

I sure sounded like jerk posting that sorry. I installed the CFM before the Spearco and saw nothing significant while the Spearco did reduce smoke noticably. SO I think both trucks gained obviously. Maybe I didnt notice much because my stock intercooler was a bottleneck and vise versa with your truck. My truck is almost always on injectors only, yes it probably can smoke a little more than yours, I just wanted to collaberate with you because our trucks are close in mods.
