I've got a PE-EZ, and I was just wondering if I could install a 3-position switch in the cab to control how much smoke I'm dumping. Would that work with the EZ, or does it only "look" at the jumper position when it first powers up?

Kees,

Yes, you change it on the fly. The bottom row jumpers are all common. There was some discussion about this some time ago. Try a search on "switch"

very cool

Thanks guys! I'm going to go switch-crazy real soon. I had such a successful install of my fuel pressure switch that now I want everything switchable in the cab. :)

Nemies,

I'd be careful to put anti-static protection on the lines from the box to the switch. One little static discharge thru the switch to the box & by-by. :{

I don't know what your set up is, but if you have big injectors then the switch is not going to help kill the smoke. The only thing the will help is not romping on it. When I had 275 injectors I could see a smoke difference in the settings but once I moved to DD3's it made no diff at all.

Yes, beyond grounding. At the point where wires from an external switch meet the circuit board, the designer often puts in 'protection' devices so that static won't damage the circuit.

Static is a real fast, high voltage signal. It'll do-in some electronic components.

Had mine for a while now.........

No problems at all. And you can control the smoke. With dd2's and the EZ on one I have a very little amount of smoke, yes it's still there but no where near when I have it on level 3 and go. Black cloud city then. The hardest thing was finding little jumpers to fit on the EZ circuit board and still get the cover on. In an earlier post I described everything and had some pics too.

Being a little anal I even wired some LED's to the switch for the different levels. Yellow for mellow and green for go... ... ... .

Oh, I only wired level one and three. 2 seemed a little useless. Kind of an all or nothing guy!

To lazy to do a search but your welcome to look.

Injectors.........

With just the EZ I never thought of taking it off of #3. After injectors it had plenty of power on #1 and lots of smoke on #3. Now I can control when I want to leave a big cloud.
