DEF System TROUBLE

Scheduled Maintenance Question

I had my truck in for the 30,000 mile service and T25 recall the other day. They didn't just change the fluid like the book says but also changed the transmission filter and pan gasket.

I asked what was wrong with my transmission that it required the filter to be changed 30K miles early. They responded that that's what their computer says to do when they plug in my VIN.

What's up with that?

On the recall, hopefully the tech will reinitialize the ABS correctly the first time for you. I had to go back to have it done correctly so my ABS light would go off and cruise control would work.

edit: it looks like they get their maintenance guide from somebody called Dealer-FX Inc.

Did they change fluid and filter? That's not required until 60K if it's an Aisin transmission. There is a drain plug on the transmission pan for fluid changes that are required every 30K miles, no need to remove the pan to change it. if you have a 68RFE thats a different thing.

You got HOSED.

Why would an actual dealership use crap called Dealer FX Inc????

Go back to the chuckleheads and demand a refund, based on pure ineptness and incompetency.

On a sidenote----never darken their doorways again for any kind of service work.

My manual says "change automatic fluid" mileage says 30, 60 and 90K. It says "change automatic transmission fluid and filter(s) 120K.

I just did my 30k Aisin service, or actually, the dealership did because my shop has a project in there with no room for the Ram. I just assumed the filter was supposed to be replaced at 30k also. Glad I bought the filter/gasket from Genos instead of the stealership. Filters/gasket from Genos + transmission oil and labor was about $280 total.

This sounds like the typical "dealer recommended" service. It pays to check your owner's manual and only have them do the factory-specified maintenance.

Dealers would probably "recommend" that you replace your engine every 30,000 miles, if they could get away with it.

^^ The dealer didn't recommend it; it was my mistake. I service my own truck and this was actually my first trip to any dealer since I watched it back off the trailer when new.

Sorry, Mr. Hawes; I was commenting on the OP. I should have included that as a quote.

AISIN AS69RC service interval / type

30k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
60k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
90k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
120k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
150k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
180k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
210k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
240k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
270k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
300k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
330k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
360k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)
390k = drain & fill transmission (about 7.2 quarts)
420k = drain & fill transmission and replace sump filter (around 9.5 to 10.5 quarts on a long drain)

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with changing the sump filter earlier, but the above intervals depicts the service intervals in the maintenance schedule.

"Absolutely NOTHING wrong with changing the sump filter earlier"

BUT BUT BUT does than mean that there is NOTHING wrong with changing ALL the ATF??? :D

yeah, I give them **** every time for still putting the 3 mo/3,000 mile oil change sticker on the window.

I sent the service person the pages from the PDF version diesel supplement with the actual service required as well as a comment that I knew how Dealer FX accomplished their 24% increase in Parts & Service Revenue that they advertise on their site. They're supposedly going to 'make it right'. I was giving them the benefit of doubt that perhaps there was something specific to a range of VINs that indicated the first transmission service needed to be more in-depth vs. sales generation.

gsbrockman, I was most concerned that they were doing the accelerated service due to some issue they discovered, but hadn't shared, with the transmission. That was originally way I posted here, hoping that if there was an issue that somebody would point to the TSB or something. After a couple exchanges with the service guy I found out they use that dealer-fx software/system and it's documentation shows filter/gasket change as well as fluid for this transmission at 30K.

With what you posted I'm a bit more concerned because they charged for 8 quarts of ATF. That would more closely align with the drain/fill and not the replace the filter scenario. I can't imagine that they would pass up charging for the three additional quarts of ATF.

Can we focus on this "dealer-FX" thing? What exactly is it?

In my opinion.... it appears to be a dealer profitability enhancer.
