I'm considering having the 3. 73 rear end replaced with a 4. 10 in my 2WD 2003 Dually with NV5600. I am in SE New Mexico for most of the winter and wondering if there are any recommendations for a good shop to have the work done either in New Mexico or in West Texas.

Also, what about a heavier duty clutch for heavy towing? Any recommendations for a clutch and a shop to do the work?

Any thoughts would be welcome. Any estimates of cost?

Bill

If you are ever in Albuquerque look me up. I have a real good friend that owns a shop and is very reasonable on price. Been in business over 25 years.

As a matter of fact I will be in Albuquerque on Monday. Where is your friends shop? I'ld like to stop by and talk to him.

Bill

The shop is called Double Gear. They are on San Mateo and Gibson accross the street from the VA hospital on the same side as McDonalds. Yellow and Blue building. 505-255-0212 and ask for Roy or Bernie. They are brothers and have been in business for a long time. Just tell them that "Steve Force" sent you. THat is my nickname at the shop. Long story but here is the short version, after I got out of the Air Force, I was able to get on a Top Fuel Team building engines and kept Roy up on what I was doing and they nicknamed me Steve Force. Ask him if he still has the pictures of me building a shortblock on his tool box.

Anyone have any idea on where to look for wrecked trucks? Got an 02' with 3. 55 and would like to find some used axles with 4. 10's! i am inbetween reno and salt lake city. any info would help.

maybe

wgood,

I have an 06 with the 4. 10s and would be willing to change to the 3. 73 gearset. Let me know if you would be interested... 10,000 mi on them.

Nick

Nick, Sorry but I have already made arrangements with Double Gear to get the 4. 10. I expect to get the change made in a couple of weeks. Then, I'll have the 3. 73 for sale. Don't know yet what to ask. Are you interested?

Bill

May I ask what the price was? I'm looking at going to 4:10's and I'd go to Alb. if the price was right. See if he will give you a deal for getting 2 trucks done :D . Mine has Dana axles though (2001. 5)

Might have to get a 3 way going. I need gears too. These 37 inch tires with 3. 73 is ridiculas. Need as far as I can figure as close to 4. 33 as I can get to be as close to the original tire size/gear ratio as stock.

will have to call Bernie and see the cost. Remember if you go in there to tell them that Steve Force sent you!! I don't get anything from them but knowing that the job was done right!

Got the 4.10 Ring and Pinion Installed

Well, I got the 4. 10 rear end installed at Double Gear in Albuquerque about 2 weeks ago. Thanks Chris Brah for recommending Bernie and Roy. They did a good job and I am very pleased. My truck now does a much better job of towing my heavy fifth wheel - about 17000 lbs. As always, TDR is a great source for help.

Now I have a 3. 73 ring and pinion for an 03 2WD for sale. I had between 62 and 63000 miles on the truck when the change was made. They are in great shape. Is anyone interested? If so send me a PM.

Bill

you are welcome Bill. Sorry I could not hang out at the shop to meet you. I am glad that you found my business card in the a pillar!! LOL!! have a safe one and next time you are in town call me and we can grab a bite to eat.

I know this ? is a little off topic but since you all are talking about 410 VS 373 rear ends I would like to ask: I have an 06 2500 w/410 rear end and 265 tires. I am not getting that great of milage and I don't tow much. What size tire would I need to get back to about the same as a 375 rear? sorry for being such a nube.

i have 37 inch tires on mine. but i also have 3. 73 gears already. I am thinking of going up to 4. 10 gears to compensate. I would go taller to lower your RPM if you don't tow much. KLENGER (i hope i spelled it right) has a GREAT excell formula that is really helpful on figuring gears/tire sizes. My speedo is 13 mph off. Hope this helps.

I would think if you tow much of anything with that setup your trans will not last too long. I would look at 4. 56s instead of 4. 10s for 37" tires.

i think 4. 56's will be too much. I don't want the RPM's screeming while on the freeway @ 80+. Want to keep things under 2k while on the freeway.
