Can anyone tell me how the truck knows when the fuel filters need to be change ? Is it by miles or by amount of fuel or being clogged? thanks Ski 20 14 srw

I don't see a 4th gen in your signature. So i don't know if which year you have. Or which year you are considering. Just be aware that the 2013's remind you at 10,000-11,000 that it's time to change the fuel filter instead of the manufacturer's recommendation of 15,000 miles (or one year...... which ever comes first). The manual says that both the oil change minder and fuel filter minder also collect engine info which could shorten the 15,000 mile change interval. It's not fuel flow rate or restriction that is monitored. But maybe it does it based on calculated load so that if you're always towing heavy and using max torque, it might set off the minder's earlier. Additionally, it likely factors in idle hours.

It was I believe Kirwin or photowrite who identified the flawed programming in the 2013 model which sets off the fuel filter minder a bit earlier (lower miles) than the 2014-2017 models. Additiinally, after almost 4 years of ownership, my truck claims to have only 4 hours of idle time. I really think i have closer to 60- 90 hours if idle time. Because i have left the truck running several times with the AC on and the wife and dog in the truck while i run into a store or restaurant. So there are some inaccuracies in thw EVIC of the 2013 models. I have 1350 ish driving hours according to the EVIC. I have owned the truck 3 years and almost 9 months.

It's just a guesstimate of the algorithm that the ECM program is programed with. Nothing else.
