The name shown in the thread list is set when the thread is initially posted - any changes to that user after that doesn't change the name on the thread list. It does however change in all the posts from that user because it is linked to the user account.

What effect does changing a user name have on the rest of the system? Any drawbacks? I thought I read a response some time ago that convinced me it wasn't practical once you had established yourself on TDR. I have never been thrilled with the suggested default user name I started out with--it didn't even accept the capital letters I tried to use.
