Do a search on the site here. I've read that an early oil change is good and I've read that it's bad.
I changed my oil as soon as I got home, at 2200 miles (I drove home through Canada).
Oil changes are cheap insurance, and if anything it may take a little longer to break in.
It was worth it to me for the peace of mind.
I don't think the factory is running a "break in oil" anymore if you are worried about that.

I agree with 85CJ. I also did mine at 2200 miles (was shooting for 2000) and I don't think that is really over or under kill. Some will say after first 500, which I'm sure is okay also. Do a search and decide what feels right to you. I don't think that I would go up to 3750 on the first change, but that's just my opinion. As 85CJ stated, oil changes are cheap insurance and I don't think that a little overkill, i. e. , changing out early, will ever damage that Cummins.

Cumapart, I'm paid to keep Class 8 tractors maintained and thankfully that usually just involves an oil & filter change. (engine wise) The truck line I am employed by is a 100% Cummins powered fleet. If you want to make your engine and yourself happy, go ahead and change your oil now. Stick with a conventional motor oil this early in the life cycle but don't baby the engine breaking it in. Remember, your username is the ownership experience you are trying to avoid.

Change it now, I waited until approx. 2800, wish I had changed it around 280.

Go ahead and change it now. My girl got a transfusion around 1000 miles. Can't see what it could hurt once you have around 500 miles or so to change the oil and filter.

CUMAPART: Lots of advice here. Apparently from guys who know far more about Cummins maintenance than the Cummins and Dodge engineers. Here's an idea: Why not read the manual that came with the truck and do what it recommends?

Cumapart... .

I changed mine at the dealer... free 1st change, and they used Delo 400, at 750 miles.

A Cummins tech support guy from Mother Cummins told me they build these engines, fill them with the Valvoline brand they recommend... can't remember. Run the engine for 10 minutes, shut it down and drain the oil and remove the filter. Package the motor and ship to the factory for installation. Who knows what kind of oil DC is putting in these at the factory. That's why I changed early.
