How hard is it to change the thermostat on a 96 12v cummins? Where is it located? When flushing the cooling system, how many gallons of premixed antifreeze does it take to refill the system?

It's not TOO bad. It is behind the elbow that the upper radiator hose is attached to. Will need to remove the alternator (the nuts for the bolts are welded in place. These don't use regular gaskets. They are rubber seals. Usually reuseable. I replaced mine last ime since the rubber was getting hard.

Great Investment

Are you going to be working on your CTD?

If so, a factory service manual is a great investment. Do not get a aftermarket one (IMHO), they are not half as good.

If you are going to change the t/s and flush the c/s. When is the last time you changed hoses? Something to think about.

Torque:

T/S housing =18 ft/lbs

Alt. mounting bolt=18 ft/lbs

Pivot bolt=32 ft/lbs
