Change tire and rim size?

I need higher load capacity tires than my stock 265/17 Michelin LTX AS. Can I change out my rims and tires and go to a 265 or 285 16 without screwing everything up. I'm thinking if I keep the approximate same diameter as stock I should be OK. Of course I'm not a math genius so I'm guessing.



The tire selection and load capacity for the 16's is much better than 17's. I would like to get up around 3750 # per tire. I have looked at the Toyo but they are very $$ in 17's



Any info or help would be appreciated.

If I am correct, a 16" rim will not fit over the rotor. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

you are correct. . even some 17" aftermarket wheels don't clear the calipers

Thanks guys, never even thought about the rotors. That is why this site is so great. Back to the Toyo's.

Thats an interesting wheel. I like the wheel but not the tires.

I just had the 285 Toyo AT's installed on my truck and so far I really like them. Main reason I changed out was the stock Michelin's just sucked in the snow and ice. I thought about the Rickson route but I can mount four sets of Toyos for the price of the Rickson wheels and tires.
