My 2001 was cutting out so I was told to change the fuel filter, so I did and now it will not start. I took it apart Sunday afternoon and found out a filter for a 99 will not work. When I got the correct filter this morning it would not start after I installed the filter. So far I have loosened three of the lines by the valve cover and tried to bleed the air at the at the two valves. I was told before I changed the filter that the lift pump may be bad. The truck is a rebuilder so it does not have warrenty that I know of. I also left the water drain open and turned the key off and on and did not see any fuel running out.

If you bump the starter, do you hear the lift pump running? If you cannot get fuel out of the drain, your pumps most likely dead.

After reading about the lift pumps I went out and checked mine and I am not getting anything at the pump. I will be changing it tomorrow. It had been cutting out for awhile and I did not check the fuel pressure before I took it apart.

Its the lift pump. If it was cutting in and out before it died thats what mine just did. Change the lift pump and it will all be solved.
