Changed both axles to the Amsoil 75W/90 synthetic. Have Mag-hytec on both so I had to buy 13 Qts to fill both. Strange blue color!

The difference of the oil I had, the LE Alumasol 90 wt is night and day, this is almost like Motor oil, maybee thinner but it says is great for limited slips and such. says documented 4% better mileage,,..... we'll see.....

Also changed the coolant to the shell rotella pre-diluted for diesels and cummins approved. Is orangish-red in color.

I did a drain then using the back fluch kit, I forced all the old stuff out then drain. then I used my compressor to force all the water out of the heater core and finish drain, then fill.

Got alot of the water out but it is almost imposs. to get all of it. Good enough on the % dilute.

I've got the 75W-90 in my 5 speed. I've had great results with the stuff. It holds up well, also. I have the 75W-140 in the differential.

EricBu12,

I just put the Amsoil 75W-90 in my rear diff. this past weekend too. Did you have to add any of the Mopar friction modifier? I did not add any and so far have not noticed any chatter or other strange noise from the rear end while making tight turns. I'm not sure how to test the limited slip function though, to make sure that it still works.

After installing new synthetics in the rear of LSD's, it is recommended to go to an open parking lot and put the truck in a series of figure 8 turns. This process forces the oil to get into the clutches easier and quicker.

amsoilman,

Yes, I went to a parking lot and did the figure 8 thing, and I have driven it for several days - combination of highway and secondary roads - still no chatter, so I'm guessing that I won't have to add any friction modifier. I was just wondering how to make sure that my LSD is still working and hasn't been converted into an open diff.

Dave

dremelts, I have been running the 75W-90 or 75W-140 stuff in my differential for around 65K miles now. I never added friction modifier until the most recent lube change, about two months ago. I felt the rear grumbling in tight turns in low gear or reverse. Why this time and never before, I can't answer. But 8 oz of the Mopar stuff fixed it right up.

I think mine is chattering just a little on dead-slow, tight turns. This after running Amsoil 75W90 for 30Kmiles.

It could well be that it can take a loooong time for the existing friction modifier to work its way out of the clutches. I may try 4 oz. of FM if I ever remember to buy some.
