I changed out my fuel filter and i started the engine and it ran for a few seconds then stop liked it was getting no fuel. My diagnostic codes show P PCU and PECU. need help please have to go on a trip tomorrow.

Turn key to ON w/o starting the engine (called bumping), let the electric pump run, do it again and again. Try starting. If no joy then bump again after you crack the #3 injector line at the head. Try starting it with 3/4 inch wrench in hand. If she starts immediately retighten the injector line. Let it run awhile the shut down and retighten line to specs. If that doesn' work then I'd look at you filter and everything else you touched. It's mostly messy but should do the trick.

Best way to check the lift pump is to get a 2-liter soda bottle and stick the end of the drain hose in it, open the valve and then bump the starter like rotohead said. This is easiest if someone is helping you, but after bumping the starter the pump should quickly fill the bottle about half full. If it's slow or doesn't pump any fuel, the lift pump is dead. Most of the time people without fuel pressure gauges discover a dead lift pump when they change the fuel filter.

Opened the drain hose while trying to bump the engine to see if lift pump is working no go. Guess i'll do the lift pump modes today that i purchased, vulcan big line/lift pump relocation and fuel pressure gage. What gets me is that my truck did not give me the sputter signs i have seen in the past on lift pump failures when you put them under heavy load conditions (wot or step hill ascents). My only concern now is how much stress did i place on the VP44. Does anyone no what the code P PCU AND P ECU mean. Thanks for all your help guys.

Every time I change my filter I do the following.

Turn key on, it will only cycle for a second or two (the lift pump), then try the starter for a couple of seconds. Then stop cranking the starter but do NOT turn the key off... ... ... ... . the pump will then run for quite some time. Try this cycle a few times, it will eventually run. Also fill up my fuel filter holder with clean diesel after installing the new filter... ... ... ... .
