Changed fuel filter now I get check engine light

Does anyone know why disconnecting the batteries does not erase the codes and extinguish the CEL on 2006 Rams??? This always worked on my older trucks. I suspect there may be a small battery embedded in the system like a desk top computer, but I don't really know. Anyone have any Ideas????

How long did you leave them disconnected? It must be at least 30 minutes, maybe longer.



It's possible this won't work anymore. But as I said before, if the problem doesn't recur the light will disappear in 5 starts. Be patient!

Leaving batteries disconnected overnight did not turn off the CEL. Still lights out since I erased the codes with my scanner yesterday.

Did you happen to turn the key on while the batteries were disconnected?? Probably a capacitor holding enough juice to prevent the computer from "forgetting"...
