Ok - my old standby Toyo M 55's for some reason didn't give me the mileage that I expected so I swapped them for another set of AVON SXT Mud Terrain (that's what Les Schwaub calls this tire that Cooper makes for them). I had a set earlier and they almost went 70,000 - by far the best mileage of any tire I've had. Will keep you posted. The one thing I love about these tires is the way the tread keeps it's shape all the way through the it's wear. Most tires change their pattern as you get through say the 1st half or so.

I tried to edit my profile and I guess it will take effect after my posting... .

Hammersley,

How are these tires in wet weather? Being a ~70K tire I would expect the rubber compound to be on the hard side and thus not that good in wet weather.

They do look noisier than my MT/Rs. But then again I can't hear my tires over the Cummins. With the proper stereo volume I doubt you could hear these either. :D

Today I just replaced my BS 285/75/16 Desert Duellers with GY 305/70/16 AT/S. Local shop I got the BS' from gave me a 30. 00 per tire credit on the BS' for lousy mileage (30,000) and didn't charge any labor to replace. :)

I am so glad I support the local guy over the national chains.

631. 00 out the door:D

What was the problem? What mileage did you expect? What mileage did you get? The reason I want to know is I have it down to either the M-55's or Michelin XPS Traction's to replace my OEM's. Want all of the information I can get before I make that decision.

last time I did get almost 70,000

and when I changed them they could have gone a few thousand more but bad weather was coming. As far as wet weather - we have the corner on that here and they work great - they do not hydroplane at all as there are lots of ways for water to get out. They are not as noisy as my M55's. At 20,000 my M55's had 10/32 left - which meant they would last about 40,000 miles. Like I said, this is my 2nd set. Will keep you informed.

40K miles for a tire that costs that much money is not good. Do you think they cheapened the M-55 compared to the last M-55 you owned?

I was told that they did change something....

Am not sure what - but they didn't wear like I thought they should. I've used them before on a lighter vehicle and had great results.

I only got 35k out of my M55's. Put another set out swearing I'd take better care of them. Already getting some unusual wear, so I'll probably switch to a different tire next time too. I hate buying anywhere but Schwab's because of their service, but will if I have to buy a tire I can get more than 40k out of. They ain't cheap:( :(

Thanks, Looks like I will end up with the all steel Michelin XPS Tractions, they cost about the same as the M-55's and it sounds like all of the owners get around 70-80K miles from a set. When you have to buy 6 tires at a time for around $1100 you don't want to make a mistake.
