Changing 2500 spring pack

I'm considering either adding a helper spring or putting a new spring pack in my 2500. My pin weight is right on the edge of legal, and for $650 it would give me peace of mind as well as added safety. My pin weight is around 1800# with my fiver.

Talk me out of it. . or agree. Opinions please.



I'm aware that a changed spring pack does not make a 2500 a 3500 legally.

I added TIMBRENS to my 2500 because of my 5er's pin weight, which is quite a bit more than yours and now it rides better and is a little more level, even with my front leveling kit (2 inches).

Have you considered adding air bags, instead of a helper leaf or a 3500 pack?

I added Firestone airbag ride-rites for the controllability and adjustments to different load weights. Flip side, more hardware, more things for Murphy to touch. Roll of the dice for any upgrade. -------RJ

I ended up installing timbrens in mine. My pin weight is around 2200 lbs and basicly found out that the overload spring is pretty much useless .

This is the exact point I have tried to make before! I am glad that someone with a 3500 finally said it so someone will believe me!

2 full length springs

I had spring shop in Charlotte fabricate 2 full length leaf springs for my rear. You could always had small block placed under your overload spring. That would make it impact the frame blocks sooner.



Timbrens were to bouncy for me.

this is what i did. my 3500 can handle my GN just fine without them, but i dont like how it sits back end low by about 2 inches. it rides alright without the air bags, but rides much better with them. the grat thing about the air bags is you can use them when you need them and back to stock when you dont. extra springs are going to make a 3/4 ton ride worse than a one ton. i dont dislike my ride one bit, it is 200% better than my 96 K3500 dually.....
