I have a brake controller that was installed when I bought my 5th wheel (time delay type). I don't like the way it hesitates when I apply the truck brake before it applies the trailer brakes. Then it only brakes harder the longer you hold the truck brakes down. Not good during an emergency.

So, I bought a Prodigy. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to change out the controllers? Very electrically challenged - but I can cut and splice. Is this all there is to it? Would it be better to change out the harness? I don't have much time, so I don't want to "mail order" a new harness.

Aren't there just 4 wires? Can I just match the wire colors and connect them?

Also, for a 13k# trailer, what initial setting would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Easy to do. Just unhook the connector under the dasy and take the blue connector end off the old controller. Splice the wires into the Prodigy according to the instructions, plug in, and you're done.

If you are as electrically challenged as me (electricity is evil and not your friend) you could have spent the money for the Dodge Pig tail pre wired to the Prodigy,,,,,,,,,

Thats the way to go... plug and play.

Why do I have to unhook the connector under the dash? Can't I just cut the wire and splice?

Sure, you can squat next to your truck with your knees on the ground or maybe even lay on the floor of the cab..... my choice would be to unhook it and stand comfortably next to a work bench and splice them together... ... ...
