Changing Fuel Filter

So what is the best thing to put in our trucks to help clean the injectors if I change my own filter?

Glad I started this post, I have always drained and then removed the filter.

I thought maybe if one was to drain part of the fuel , then remove the filter and finish the draining there would be enough fuel left to wash any dirt laying in the bottom out with the balance of the fuel.



Just food for thought.



Every tank I use 4 oz MMO and the Power Service diesel additive in the white jug and about every 4th tank I use the Power Service additive in the silver jug to help clean the injectors.



On a side note, I checked my engine hours today, and figured the Avg MPH

I did that with mine the other day. I think I was at 33 or something.....

OK, how about this... last week when I changed mine for the second time since I've had the truck, I put a bucket under the drain hose, opened the little yellow handle, started draining, and draining, and draining, and draining... you get my point. It seemed like it would never stop draining, so I finally said to heck with it, got up there, turned the yellow handle off, and swapped filters, fuel still in the bowl, put the lid back on, bumped the starter, started it right up w/ no hesitation. How much fuel does one lose when they drain the filter??

Odd. I only lose what was in the bowl. And that's not a whole lot.

I'm ressurecting this post from the dead. I changed my filter today as part of my oil change and new lift pump.

I drained the housing, removed filter, wiped out the visible crud inside the housing (fine black particles), reinstalled filter, r&r lift pump, primed system, drained it again, primed again, then started. My thought is with changing the lift pump and disturbing the canister it is a good idea to do that second flush to purge any heavy contaminants.
