Ok, so I finally build up the nerve to change the heater core.

Are there any other parts or misc items that I should know about before I dive in.

I already have the heater core and an evaporator (Just in case).

Anything else?

Thanks!

You will need a couple of stoppers to plug the heater core inlet and outlet so the coolant won't spill into the floor of truck while removing. If you install the evaporator you should also replace the receiver/dryer. bg

tips

I replaced my heater core a few weeks ago and I did it without disconnecting the a/c and all. I used the NAPA heater core part number NHC 6601767. It has swiveling fittings/tubes and makes installation MUCH easier without disconnecting the a/c. Something else I found is to go to the dodge dealership and order TWO of part number 55036506-AB. Its the replacement heater core tubes WITH the bend in the end of them. NAPA and other part stores just use straight tubing that puts quite a hard bend in the end of the hose, almost a kink. I also put a shutoff valve on one side as well. I believe the advance auto parts number is either 84707 or 84706. One is a bit larger than the other, I forget which one, but I believe the 06 is the one for the 2nd gen. You can put one on both sides if you wish. Also be VERY VERY careful if your dash doesnt already have cracks in it, its VERY easy to crack. Good luck!!!!

Get some of the foam gasket seal to go around the heater core. if it isnt sealed tight inside the heater core box, air will leak around it. the gasket on my original heater core was glued on pretty good and not reusable.

Firefighter 2000- What year is your truck? Before I buy the parts you listed! want to be sure they are correct for my 96'. Might want to put this in your signature line. :) -Thanks.

Heater Core job: What's worth Replacing during?

I'll soon be changing Heater core..... What else should I do while I'm in there?

Evaporator???? Air Dryer (don't know where or what this one is?)... . What do you think?

I'm having a local diesel mechanic (former Chrysler mechanic :)) do the job on the side.

I read above that the Napa Heater Core has movable lines that make it better? Would be nice not to discharge the A/C if possible... .

What do folks ad valves to the heater core / lines for & should this be done?

I'm trying to figure out what to replace / what to buy.

The windshield fogged up badly yesterday & the padding under the pass side floor is wet..... I plan to keep the truck for quite a few years.
