I am changing from a stock exhaust without muffler or cat to a 4" Banks with a resonator. Currently I have the exhaust thermocouple located in the pipe 3" from the turbo. I want more accurate readings and intend to put in a new thermocouple in either the Pac Brake housing or in the manifold.

With thermocouple in the pipe 3" after the turbo I have reached 900 degree readings for short pulls. With the installation of the new 4" exhaust I expect to have somewhat lower temps. I realize locating it closer to or in the manifold will give more accurate readings, although higher than I've had in the current location.

Which is the most accurate gauge and should I remove the turbo if I put it in the manifold. Can I use a magnet to pick up all the metal through the new hole for the thermocouple or is that taking to much of a chance.

I would be satisfied putting it in the Pac Brake housing and adding 200 degrees to the reading for an accurate reading.

Also does anyone know how I can buy only a thermocouple for my US GEAR gauges or do I have to purchase the whole outfit.
