Competition Hey! Can Ya Beat This E.T.!!!

Competition Added a "Neon" notch to my CTD's belt!

Well, fellows, my truck is running great. I'm ready now to change out my 35 #12 turbo housing to a #16 non wastgated housing I got from Piers to help with the EG temps. I don't do any towing and can get to 1300 pretty quick going through the gears. I don't let it go beyond that. I also don't race on a closed track or sled pull, yet! My truck is mostly just for fun, and looking for powerstrokes and maxes. Wonder how much boost I will get now? Any good tips you could tell me about the change? I read about using the bolts to seperate the housings.

Thanks

Michael

I'm not fueling anywhere close to what you are and right now I am running the 14cm PDR HX35.

Do you think it is about time to move up to the HX40??? Is the 16 housing going to give you enough to make it worth the work??

Just something to think about...

Rick: Without a doubt, if I were pulling sleds, racing or towing, I sure would go with the PDR 40. My truck is just a driver and I think the little 16 x 35 may spool quicker than the 40. I also don't use higher rpms where the 40 would really shine. At the price of a housing, I can't afford to not try it. If it doesn't work, then they will be sending me a 40!

michael , you made need to heat the exhaust housing wit ha torch and use a dead blow hammer to seperate the 2 , over time the 2 become 1 . be careful as you want to avoid bending the exhaust side fins ...

When you pull the 12 housing,go as evenly as you can,and check to see the housing isnt hitting the turbo fins,do this by turning the shaft lightly with your fingers as you wiggle it off. It the shaft stops spinning dont pry any more on that side, pry across from that spot. When installing the 16cm,do the same thing. Id go out and spray the exhaust bolt/V clamp, and the manifold to turbo bolts with PB blaster every day before you do the job,PB blaster helps a lot,it really works.

Michael,

That is very true on the HX40. . It was suggested that one day I should install one of the 40's but again I'm not sure about the lag. Like you I dont use the higher rpm range while towing. I now can pull 6% grades at 60 mph at about 2200 rpms(this is not freeway roads).

But also with changing to the PDR HX35/14 my mileage jumped 1. 5 mpg. . and I double checked it it make sure. The motor seems to be smoother and not working as hard. .
