It is a very straightforward unbolt and put back together project. Some bolts and injector line nuts and unhandy to get to, but patience will pay.

Be sure the key way on the pump is UP when you pull the pump out of the housing so you don't lose the key inside the motor.

You can use the nut on the alternator to turn the motor.

Remove the injector lines as two sets of three, not individually.

Happy wrenching.

Yes, you need a gear puller to break loose the injector pump gear. IMPORTANT! Before reinstalling your new VP44 pump, make sure the 'moon shaped' key is securely in the new pump shaft.

Notch the moon side of the key and hammer it in, or use lock- tight, or something! You need to make sure it's on top of the shaft secure. You may need several tries. You will have to use a mirror to align it with the gear in the gear case.

But if you drop it in the gearcase, as I did, do not panic! Just remove the fan and the gearcase cover, retrieve the key, and it's actually easier this way as you can now aim the gear without a mirror over the shaft straight on, just more time consuming.

VP44

You cant be out of Warranty already  :--)

Man that tooooo soon for that to happen:mad:

Do you have or did you have a bad LP?

How many miles do you have on the truck?

And were can a guy buy a blue chip gear puller?

Can you give me a part # and a phone # so i can buy one anybody:D

Thanks David

I updated my sig. I have a tapped wire. I was towing a trailer on 3 without a helper pump or a FP gauge and the truck cut out for a second. Now its not the same. I get dead peddle, sounds different and does not run as smooth. I can here a slight pining noise at light acceleration. and code 0216. I am chaging the VP to save my warrenty so they can trouble shoot it.

Dave... ... sounds like too much coffee. Relax, take a deep breath. No special puller needed you saw my home made puller. It has worked on over 70 vp-44s and a few 7100,s :)
