Just thinking....about sellin'

I have been researching the possibility of moving to Charleston South Carolina. It would be a huge move, basically moving from one end of the country to the next. I was wondering if there is anyone that lives there and what they like about it. For us it would be a major weather change but probably a nice one. I am not a huge fan of our winters here. If you have any input good or bad please comment. My company I work for has an office in a nearby town so that is the draw. Thanks

I dont live there. I am North of Charleston by a pretty good distance. I do however know people that have lived as well as vacationed there. From what they said the summers were hot and humid. Almost to the point of being miserable. Im not trying to discourage you by any means. You may want to visit there during the hot months and see if you can adjust to the weather. It may be weather shock for ou coming from Wash. state.

I've vacationed there a few times and love it!!! There is so much history, old time manors, plantations, and the old way of southern living. There is much naval activity, in the way of ocean going vessels, etc. Also lots of Navy museum type ships, history on the War between the States, etc. I love the spanish moss hanging from the trees, the beautiful beaches, etc.

There are a few really nice state parks in the area as well for biking/hiking/etc.

It's also an easy day's drive to get to the Smoky Mountains for vacationing as well.

It's a place I would consider living.

Charleston being by the coast is the worst kind of humid there is. On a clear night the humidity is so thick it drips off trees like rain. I'm in the uppper nw part of SC and it gets hot June, July, and August there's not near the humidity as Charleston has. In the summer I think Charleston is to the point of being miserable. Going there in summer would be like visiting Fairbanks AK in Janurary.

I was stationed there in the Navy for about a year, and agree with the very humid comments. That was the worst part for me.

Huricanes come to mind!;) If they miss Florida they seem to hit South Carolina.

I have had two brothers living outside of Charleston(one still does) they did not seem to mind the heat/humidity but they lived in Florida for many years.

I do not live there but I and my family love to vacation there yearly from Pennsylvania. We camp out on Hunting Island which is a beach front State Run Campground. Beaufort SC is a very nice town with a picturesque bayfront marina and the town is steeped in history of the 'low country' and the likes of 'frogmore stew' and 'crab burgers. Local islands house some wealthy denizens living in closed gated communities like Fripp Island, Ladys Island. . and then next door to them it is like going back in time with the old architecture, spanish moss, small streets and huge victorian southern plantation type houses etc. Weather wise I would say the humidity is indeed high at times but then "to each his own". I am not sure about their tax system down there. Might want to look into that. A fellow camper was telling me that he has to pay TAX on his camper every year?! Like I said, not sure about that but you might want to clear that one up!:-laf

Just as I thought, Humid as heck. Yeah we will really take all that into consideration. I am about as white as you can get besides maybe a redhead. I would probably hate the summers. As my Dad would say," getting out of a car is like stepping into a wet blanket. " He said look into it and then forget it. I love the NW but sorta want a change for awhile. Hurricanes would make me run for the hills for sure. I can say the only real bother around here is the snow and cold rain for 5 months. Thanks for the feedback and I will keep ya all posted. Not big on kayaking with crocs, fishing in muddy creeks, or eating frogmore stew... hmm may have just made up my mind.
