The Air Darn "CLASSIC" is Born

About 30 yrs. ago there was a man, an inventor, by the name of Charlie Brown, who had a water vapor device that boosted fuel economy in both diesel and gas trucks by about 20% It works similar to a water injection system but it actually worked because of the way it was constructed. It didn't actually inject the water in there it worked similar to a ceramic water filter. When air was drawn in through the intake the air would pass through the ceramic filter and the vacuum would draw moisture out of the pores of the ceramic device and thus you would get actual water vapor instead of squirts of water like you would get in someof the cheapo water injection devices. Some auto dealers were actually offering it on vehicles in the early 70's until the EPA stepped in and stopped it claiming it was an unapproved fuel enhancement device, even though it was tested and worked and cut back on diesel emissions by more than half. But the EPA stopped the dealers from having it on their new cars.

Does anybody know if there is a similar device being made again and where one can be gotten?

Water Injector

Had one on a '73 Chevy P/U, it did eliminate pre detonation as advertised. Moved it to my '75 Suburban and it still worked. It had an electric valve with a rheostat for volume adjustment, and you could adjust 'til the ping quit. Also had about a gallon tank, but needed 10 gallons. Had a small nozzle that mounted in the top of the air cleaner housing. If I remember correctly it came from the that big junk parts place in Chicago. You could probably make one with a mister nozzle. The only problem I can see is that if you were to inject into the air horn, you would have to overcome the turbo pressure. If you injected pre turbo, I'd be afraid of the water de-misting in the inter cooler, and causing some serious problems down the road.

A couple guys have experimented with a system that stores a small volume of electrolite from which the off gassing (hydrogen) is sucked into the engine. The advantages are a cleaner burn and better mileage. My instinct is that the effect is minimal. However, a fellow is currently building a data base while testing a system on his truck. Once enough info is compiled we may have some first hand opinions.

MGM was flirting with something like this.

I am the guy running the diesel hydrogn fuel cell, I haven;t wanted to say to much about this product tell all the testing is done. So far I haven;t found much better fuel savings or better power like has been advertised, what I have found is that it has greatly reduced the black smoke that powerd up trucks produce, lower egt,s at any given speed and my oil in 3000 miles is some what clean. These units have been on over the road trucks for over a year and have performed very well by giving the owners 1 to 2 miles to the gallon better fuel mileage that doesn;t sound like much but given they only get 4 to 5 to start with thats good. So far I think this would work well for the guy that tows alot but for the average guy I don;t think it would pay back enough. I will put on more data when I can do some towing

A member e-mailed me a site that sells these hydrogen genarators and I have lost it. If that member would e-mail me or post it for every one I would appreciate it.

Yes, I had some literature from a place that made these hydrogen injector units. They "Guaranteed" something like a 20% inc in MPG's.

The unit was along the lines of $600-$700 if memory serves me.

I'd also like to get a web address, or something. I think they were here in the north east. ?

I think it's time to lob this thread over to the "Products and Accessories" forum. Maybe it'll get more attention there anyway.
