I know many of you here follow the SS/AA Hemi's as much as I do and after the recent NHRA National Open at Maple Grove Dragway I felt this guy deserves our praise. Charlie Wescott Jr,driver of the "Warfish" Hemi Cuda, has donated all his winnings away won from the Hemi Shootout At the US Nationals to the "Liberty USO" a charity to help our servicemen and women and their familes. Here is the text taken from the Jesel Valvetrain website and a link also to it for those would rather read it there. Congratulations to Dan Jesel and Charlie Wescott Jr for their help... ... Andy
JESEL and Charlie Wescott’s War Fish Racing Donate $10,000 to the USO
MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY – With most of the recent humanitarian relief focused on America’s hurricane victims, Charlie Wescott and Dan Jesel of JESEL Valvetrain Innovation wanted to ensure that our soldiers stationed around the globe – especially those serving in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom – are not forgotten. To this end they have donated the $10,000 check that Charlie and the War Fish Hemi Barracuda won at the Mopar Hemi Challenge at the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals, to the USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey, (also known as the “Liberty USO”).
The timing of this donation couldn’t have been better. The Liberty USO has recently been given the mission of establishing a USO Service Center in the new Ft. Dix air terminal at McGuire Air Force Base, scheduled to open April of 2006. All Army troops deploying to and from OEF and OIF will utilize this new terminal. This USO Center will cost approximately $50,000 to complete, and the JESEL/ War Fish money is the first set aside for this project.
“We are thrilled that Dan Jesel and Charlie Wescott have decided to support our organization’s mission,” stated DJ Stanhope, Executive Director of the Liberty USO. “This $10,000. 00 will help provide seed money for the project, which will include computer stations with internet access, telephones, big-screen TV’s, video game units and a snack bar. Our goal is $50,000. 00 to complete the project. ”
The USO (United Service Organizations) was founded in 1941 by President Franklin Roosevelt to provide a “touch of home” to military members going overseas in record numbers during World War II. The need for the USO and its services has never been greater than it is today, with the extraordinary demands on the military in ongoing worldwide military operations. Liberty USO served more than 100,000 troops in the last year, providing a “hug from home” to every active duty service member, reservist and National Guardsman we encounter.
Dan Jesel stated, “Charlie Wescott and I are thrilled to donate to such a worthwhile cause. We hope that the rest of the drag racing community will get behind this project so that it will be fully funded by the time the Ft. Dix terminal opens in April. Our troops and their families are making a huge sacrifice for the rest of us. The least we can do is help the USO send them off, and welcome them back in style. ”
The “Liberty USO”, is a private, civilian, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to serving members of the US military and their families. The Liberty USO receives no federal, state or local government funding; rather we rely on the generosity of volunteers and contributions from individuals and corporations.
