Chattanooga campgrounds

Planning on going to the Chattanooga area this spring with the family, anybody have any favorite campgrounds in that area? We'll be coming up 75 from FL. Appreciate any suggestions. Jim

DeSoto State Park high atop Lookout Mountain in the northeast corner of Alabama, about 1/2 an hour's drive from Chattanooga on I-59, is one of my most favorite places in my beloved South. Don't miss it. Weiss Lake, in the valley down from the mountain, offers fantastic bass fishing...

Lots of things to see and do in the area. Guntersville Lake to the west, also Redstone Arsenal and the Alabama Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, which, begging your pardon, is better than Kennedy Space Center. The Alabama Band Fan Club headquarters in Fort Payne, Alabama, very close to DeSoto State Park.

We travel through Chattanooga couple times a year going to Smokies. I guess we've stayed at all of them in Chatanooga. Be honest there is not any great ones there. I guess Best Holiday Trav-L-Park at exit 1B on I 75 is both convenient and one of better ones. It is less than mile from I-75. First exit you come to in TN. Desota as mentioned is a state park and nice but not convenient to your travel. By the way, Chatanooga is'nt a bad destination site. Aquarium, Rock City, Chatanooga Choo Choo and several other nice places to visit.

Stayed at a very nice Georgia state park called Cloud Land Canyon about 20 or so miles south of Chattanooga and just a couple of miles off of 59. It has a limited number of sites but there are some what secluded and private especially when the leaves are back on the trees. Also there is a beautiful canyon (hence the name) with waterfalls and good hiking trails. We stayed there last November and it was very quiet and peaceful, I think there is a website for the park, or maybe thru the Georgia state park site, it helps to reserve a spot because of the limited number of sites. A bit of advice there are two seperate camping areas, one near the picnic areas that overlook the canyon and another a couple of miles away, I suggest the latter away from the canyon overlook, which has the more secluded sites.
