I want to install a #8 or #10 fuel plate on my 95 and have found a big difference in price of fuel plates. The expensive ones are around $200 and the cheap ones are $35. The cheap ones are on Ebay has anyone purchased one of these and if so what is the difference between them and the expensive one other than price?

tedder:confused:

Take off your original plate and grind it into a #100 shape, half moon on the side furthest from the mounting bracket, then tapering to a flat plane about halfway thru the plate. Use the deepest groove in the original cut as your deep end baseline. When you take the original plate out, mark where it was with a scribe, then install the cut one about 1/8" further forward, and also install the AFC housing (which covers the plate) full forward. When you grind, grind slow, and cool the plate a lot.

If you dont have gauges yet, do not go any further (ie mod the plate/pump) without them.

PM me if you have any q's

good luck

That is what I did to my 97 12ver and the results are amaizing just try not to get into the throttle alot... . you will watch the fuel milage go down but if you stay nice on the throttle you will get about the same milage that you were getting before... . truck runs like a rapped ape... . amaizing.

Thanks everyone, what I'm getting out of this is most everyone modifies their plate or takes it out. Some one has to purchase the ones on ebay or the expensive ones others sell or they wouldn't have them up for sale. I don't want to modify mine because I drive my truck everyday and want to be able to swap out the stock and be able to swap it back if needed. I guess I'm just playing it safe since I've never done this before.

I bought a set of 4 cheapies off ebay... a #10, 8, 6, 4... tried them out, ground a 5 out of the six and 100 out of the 10 and ended up grindng a custom one... but ist fun to swap them around and see what kind of gains you get and try a few different grinds. You can always move your stock one ahead all the way and you will gain probably about 40-50hp or move it anywhere in between.

Don't be skeered! Once you put a modded plate in, you'll never go back! You'll only want more!;)

JBain,

Where are you finding the cheap plates on Ebay.

I'm not good at finding stuff on line, but I did spend about an hour looking on Ebay and other vendors. No luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA, Ray

JBain,

Thanks for the link.

I just ordered a #8 plate on Ebay this morning.

Yesterday I ordered, pyro, boost, and trans. temp gauges from Geno's.

My plan is to inst. gauges, drive for a few days to see what stock boost and pyro #s are, then inst. , the plate and start tuning.

My stock (88K mi. ) 47RE seems to still be working good, so I'm going to have to stay within it's perimeters, untill I can do an upgrade on it.

I'm excited to get started adding some HP. and torq.

I've been reading about this stuff for the last few months, so now I get to get started.

I'll post up my results in a few weeks.

Ray

I bought a #8 plate off e-bay and I think it was the best $50 I ever spent. I didn't want to grind on the factory plate in case I ever want to put it back in (like when one of my boys wants to borrow it). I installed the new plate about . 050" forward from the stock plate's position and have the AFC all the way back. I also turned the governor stop screw in so that the rev limit is now a touch over 3000 rpm. Wife followed me home from Austin to Conroe, TX a couple weeks back and reported that I was pulling away from the Grand Caravan's 3. 8L when we were passing folks on the 2-lane FM1488 (with no smoke). I'm not interested in entering my truck in a sled pull, just wanted more zip for passing folks on the back roads, and buddy, it's mission accomplished!
