2005 model... ... ... ... and my steering wheel leather is already cracking due to the sun... ... ... ... ..... and this is in the north east! Any one have this problem? Is it just cheap leather?

I think it is the oils/ acids in your hands that is doing it. Mine did the same thing at 12:00 0'clock where I hold my hand. It became very rough and then smoothed out again with time.

I got tired of replacing worn through leather steering wheels. I odered my 04. 5 with a regular steering wheel. The saleman looked at me funny and said the leather was only a $40 extra. I stuck by my guns and out of all the people that have been in or looked at the truck no one has noticed or mentioned its not leather wrapped. The steering wheel is still as new. :)

Forgive the ignorance, but isn't there a regular production steering wheel hiding under that leather? If there is, just unstitch the leather and have yourself a regular steering wheel, when it gets worn.

If mine does not smooth out over time then right before the warranty runs out I am going to have it replaced.

Bet you that they call that normal wear and tear and deny your warranty claim.

They replaced my 98's right at the end of the warrantee, but things have changed since then.

Another issue that hasn't been addressed is the fact that alot of people use Armorall on their leather and that is a big no-no. You need to use a leather cleaner and protector. I used to use it on my 01 with the leather wheel until a leather guy told my why it looked crappy. Some stuff from my old horse owning neighbor fixed it right up though.

Get a steering wheel cover at Pep Boys, or Wal-Mart etc. it's only about $10 and you can replace them as you need to.

Too Bad DODGE didnt think of that! a $40k+ truck and the steering wheel has to be covered by a wal-mart $10 cover. Thats quality!

I bought a Bell (the helmet guys) cover at Wal-Mart and I hate it. Its very thick and only goes a little over 1/2-way around the wheel. Feels really strange in my hands.

What ever happened to the old thin leather covers that went all the way around the wheel and then laced on? Do they still make those?

I've got the same problem with my wheel even religiously using lexol leather cleaner and conditioner. Glad I opted for the cloth, my 00 Chevy had leather and the leather seats in it were lousy as well. Why can't a domestic company use quality leather like my wife's BMW, I think some of us would pony up a couple more bucks for it. Anyhow I'm done with my rant anyone know about the Geno's wheelskin?

Ryan

Wheelskins are really nice and you can't beat the price that Geno's is selling them for. I bought mine direct and it cost more than if I had bought it from Genos. JR

Same here. I was constantly cleaning the leather wheel on my 96, and I got tired of it. When I ordered the 05, my sales guy kept saying "C'mon, the Thunder Road will cost you less overall!" I said no - I didn't want the leather wheel or the bodyside moldings (after having full-length moldings on my 96, even over the dually fenders, I think the door-only moldings look cheesy).

There's LEATHER in a Leather Interior???

I have a Laramie, with 'Leather', and while cleaning it yesterday, I

was a little surprised to see that of the 6 seats, only 2 have leather.

The rear seats are all vinyl. The center is vinyl.

Only the driver and passenger center panels are Leather. The perforated

material is vinyl.

If you take your finger and press it into the seat, you can see how the

vinyl stretches evenly, and the leather does not.

Come on DC, this is a JOKE! I paid for leather, where is it? :-{}
