I'll get back with codes when I get a chance. Second time this has happened, identical situation, looks like a pattern. I filled up my tank in evening, drove 1 mile to hotel, parked my truck. The parking space is about 10% sloped, my nose is down. Next morning, I get CEL, which cleared the last time I had it (about 5 restarts I believe). I know the fuel vent system will set off the CEL (loose fuel cap for example). Anyone else experience this?

The diesel does not have an evap system test yet... ... ... ... ... . there are some erooneous codes that can be repaired by a flash.

Bob

Thanks for responding. CEL cleared today, just like last time. I was unable to pull any codes using the ignition switch. This feature may not be available anymore on '06. Probably a nuisance indication, I need to get a reader. I'll pass on the re-flash. Other threads have highlighted some problems after visiting the dealer to clear codes.

All the best,

Rich

After my first fill up. I got a Check Light. I remember the service writer telling a customer as I was walking by at the shop. The problem was a loose fuel cap. Sure enough. I had a loose fuel cap. Code disappeared. Never came back.

NO EVAP monitoring on the diesel... ... ... ..... but if you have key on you could get a code for fuel gauge rationality. The loose gas cap is only on gassers.

I don't have an 06, but read somewhere that you now have to have it in trip odometer mode before turning key 3 times.

Try that, it may work!

I'll try the trip odo for codes. Regarding the CEL, I find I interesting that I have seen it only twice in 18k miles, only recently, and it has happened only after I have filled up (one click) at night , have driven a very short distance, and have parked overnight on a down slope, nose down. As an engineer, I do appreciate all feedback, but I don't find this to be a coincidence. Maybe cosmic forces are in play here, the last time I filled up I told myself: "o. k. you did it this time, CEL is going to show up again. " Do I fill up a. m. on my next trip, or do I give it one more shot?...

Sounds like you didn't get the memo, LOL. We don't have a "CEL" anymore. It's now a "MIL" (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). Funny, this one actually makes sense, since half the time, it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the engine. With all this, I keep expecting to hear "Number 5 Alive" and "No Disassemble" coming out of my radio speakers if I take it to the shop. BTW, I get an occasional intermittent MIL that goes away on it's own. What to think?

As an engineer... ... ... ... . get the code, then figure it out. Just guessing but I would bet it is a rationality code. Either Temp or pressure and you will probably need a flash to eliminate your issue.

Bob,not an engineer:-laf

Bob, What do you know about the seeing the codes on 06? Mine was built Mar06. I did not get any codes on the ODO using the ignition switch as suggested. I'll buy a card reader anyway and get back to you. I just need to know.

Engineering 101: (a) if it isn't in the manual, figure it out and (b) share what you find with others. TDR blog has probabaly save me $1,000 in wasted dealer charges, and I've learned from experience the best thing to do is stay away from them anyway. Rich

Sorry, I have a scanner at my disposal,so I have never had to play with key cycling to pull codes. When I travel in the 3rd gen I have a reader under the back seat so I will always have an idea if a mil is imprtant or not. I deal with a lot of engineers, they tend to be the more dificult to deal with because they know enough to be dangerous :-laf My older brother included.

As far as the dealer thing goes I would suggest getting friendly with a dealer tech you can trust. I notice on here all the time people bashing them but when push comes to shove and no one else can fix it guess where they all go... ... ... .

In the end you will be going to the dealer for a flash. Smile,be happy, don't sweat the small stuff, and remember it is all small stuff.

Bob

either that or buy your own chrysler scan tool and get friendly with the tech by taking him out back and opening your wallet for the Chrysler scan tool updates. Of which I am considering

ok this time stamp thing on TDR is really getting on my nerves. it is 6:32 in the morning and look at the time stamp TDR gave me probably 11:32

Says 03:33 here (pst) You can go to user control panel and set your date and time option under edit options, I used to think it was strange too.

Well, I stayed at my usual place again, this time I did not fill up the night before. No CEL (or MIL). I suppose my rag on dealers is very simple. The first person you talk to is a salesman/manager and doesn't really know anything. Standard statements are "no problem". "You need to leave it all day, we'll call you". I just hate leaving my keys with these people. This is not Dodge specific, this applies to every dealer I have ever dealt with. Working directly with the the tech is a great idea, until an independent garage hires him away for more money. I'll be looking for a good independent shop to handle my truck, I will obviously need help at some point. These blogs live forever, maybe someone else will experience the same CEL I had problem down the line. Had fun with this one, thanks to everyone for responding.
