Consider De-sooting maintenance, If you have aftermarket intake during De-sooting you will hear the Actuator cycling at times, Keep the Exhaust tail pipe away form everything at leased 8FT, it will melt plastic burn paint and grass. I always lift the hood it gets hot if no wind, the fan will cycle also, it will take 20-60 minutes.

Update. New Actuator installed, Hardest part of the job finding and opening the radiator drain. The 4 bolts holding the unit to the turbo came right out no issues. Clean gasket surface and install. Easy. Seemed to work last night today will tell have trailers to move later.

If you have Alfa, use it to do a Stationary De-sooting, if the Actuator does not function correctly it will drop out of De-Sooting and trigger codes.

I got my new (Reman.) actuator installed yesterday. Have a friend that has a Snap-On scan tool and it basically will tell you step by step how to change it. All total, I have about $435 in the entire process. This includes flushing all the old antifreeze. I could have saved money there by reusing the old antifreeze but I opted to change it with 93K miles.

Anyone needing a replacement Actuator should look at M&D Distributors in Texas. They do rebuilds for Cummins. My Actuator came in a Cummins box with a Cummins install kit for $304. plus a $194. core charge that will be refunded. Not too bad considering eBay was in the $600-900 range.

That's a great price. I paid just a little less for mine since I am in industry already. That hardware kit is gold also, most actuators online dont come with one, they want to sell you one for $50++

Is it best to do this just before an oil change?
