This morning I went to start my truck. It went through all of it's pre-startup checks, the lift pump started, the heaters cycled and all of the dash lights cycled on and off... but the check engine light stayed on. I shut the engine off and disconnected the Puck, and the light still would not go out so that is not the cause. Since the light is behaving this way I think something happened last night to store a code.
On my '94 Chevy I could jumper out pins 1 and 2 on the ECM test port, cycle the ignition and count the dash light flashes to get the code. Can this be done on a 2001 Dodge? I have a suspicion that my boost module is letting too much voltage pass and I set an over boost code. I need some help, I need to get this fived before going up to Dyno Days this Saturday

You can cycle the ignition to "on" 3 times and then the codes will come out on the odometer. Make sure that you turn the key all the way to "ON" and I even wait until the "dings" stop before I turn it off again.

what is it, and what can happen If I continue to operate the engine with this code stored in the ECM?

I checked on the code

1693= The companion engine control module has shown a fault. Does this mean the ECM saw an overboost condition? Or something else?
 
"1693" is really a nothing code. Just drive the truck like normal and in about 3 start cycles the light will go out. That code will not harm the fueling or "personality" of the truck in any way.

did the puck come with some kind of RF filter? I know that with my blue box, I had to install a ferrite core filter on the wires from the box because it kept making the code for "crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor do not agree" come on. I know the puck just goes inline behind the harness that attaches to the lift pump but maybe that's a reason too. I would call diablo superchips and see what they say.
 
Cliff, my Check Engine Light inexplicably came on one morning a few weeks ago. After 3 or 4 startup/shutdown cycles, it went away and has not recurred. Once a code is set, the light will stay on for 3 or 4 start/stop cycles even though the condition causing the fault may no longer exist. I'd just keep driving it and see if it clears itself. It may just be one of those electronic gremlins known as a cosmic ray strike (spontaneous one-time inexplicable electronic anomoly #ad

Sweet, thanks for the clarification. The light has cleared since cycling the key. I was in full panic mode there.

BLKDEMON: there is no RF filter on the lines to and from the Puck... . the VA does not have them either, but you may be on to something.

Vaughn: it may have been some stray electrons, those little buggers can play hell with these new fangled electric engines.

well, looks like I need to start singing the mantra "I am my own warranty station".
I was hot rodding a little last night, and I think I overshot the clipping voltage on the boost module a little..... funky MAP sensor!

Usually, the 1690-series codes are related to the injection pump. Whenever I am diagnosing a VP44 problem such as a miss, I always see the 1693 code. Not really certain as to what set the code... It should be nothing to worry about, but chances are it was caused by the puck.
 
CCollar... yes, must be. It works on my 99.

Cliff... not always a bad thing. I have no clue what set your code, but others have had it without the puck. To quote an old friend of mine... "Drive it like ya stole it!"

Justbeamn... If it works with your 1998. 5 your's is the first I've heard of and I know everything, yeah right! I'd love to see it work with that year truck. Actually, I'd just love to never again have a reason to read a fault code.

Cliff,

With P1693,you indeed set an overboost code.
Don't worry about it,it's not going to hurt anything... just keep diving it. It will go out on it's own,and it will sometimes come back,but won't hurt anything at all.
Doesn't matter wether you have a PS or DD boost module,some trucks will do this.
